You are following the official JKA curriculum, meaning every kata and kihon (fundamental) is taught with the same precision found at the headquarters in Japan. Expect a structured mix of conditioning and technical refinement in every session, and please note that for consistency and tradition, students are required to train in a standard white Gi, which can be purchased separately. ### Our Approach to JKA Shotokan We are officially affiliated with the Japan Karate Association (JKA), which means we adhere to the specific standards and grading protocols required for authentic 'Karate-Do.' Our training is not about collecting belts quickly. It is about understanding the mechanics of every block, punch, and stance. ### What You Will Learn Our classes focus on three pillars of Shotokan training: * **Kihon (Fundamentals):** Perfecting the building blocks of movement. * **Kata (Forms):** Learning sequences that teach rhythm, balance, and spatial awareness. * **Kumite (Sparring):** Applying techniques in a controlled environment to build reaction time and practical self-defense skills. ### The HSR Layout Facility Training environment matters. Our HSR Layout studio is designed to feel like a traditional Japanese dojo but with modern amenities. We have professional-grade tatami mats to protect your joints during throws and footwork drills, plus a makiwara station for conditioning. We also provide shower cubicles and a locker area so you can refresh after an intense session. ### Getting Started We offer batches for everyone from absolute beginners to advanced practitioners. If you are new, do not worry about your fitness level. You will build your endurance as you progress. We focus on steady, consistent improvement rather than rushing through the curriculum. Check our current schedule for batch timings, and reach out if you have questions about our grading process or JKA certification. ## About The Dojo We built The Dojo to bring authentic martial arts back to basics. We aren't here to just teach you how to punch; we are here to ensure you understand the lineage and precision of JKA Shotokan through disciplined, consistent practice.
