Since I only work on one project at a time in my Jayanagar studio, I can pay close attention to preserving the borders and ensuring the fit is perfect for your body type. Upcycling a saree into a lehenga is a meaningful way to keep family heirlooms relevant. I approach each piece by first assessing the fabric weight and drape. If you bring a heavy Kanjeevaram or Banarasi, I suggest a kalidar or box-pleated silhouette to handle the richness of the fabric. For the blouse, I use a princess cut or standard darting with padding to ensure a comfortable fit. The skirt features a heavy cotton or satin lining and a cancan layer for that desired flare. I always add canvas reinforcement to the waistband so it sits flat. If you have an emotional attachment to a specific part of the saree, like the zari border, let me know. I make sure those details appear on the hem or the blouse back. This process requires time, and because my studio is appointment-only, I can focus entirely on your requirements without rushing. Whether you are planning for a wedding or a festive event, a saree-to-lehenga conversion gives you a set that feels entirely your own.
