Here are some of the stories I’ve captured in fondant. ## Photos and videos - ![A closer look at the details on my doctor-themed cake. Every figurine, from the stethoscope on a doctor’s cake to the tiny lipstick in a makeup kit, is hand-sculpted by me. This takes time, so I usually need 3 to 4 days of notice, but it means you get a cake that is uniquely yours, not a copy-paste design. People often ask if I use cutters to speed things up, and my answer is always no. Hand-sculpting is where the personality comes in. Whether you want a medical-themed cake with realistic pill strips and scrubs, or a fashion-focused design with detailed makeup brushes and perfume bottles, I build it from scratch using fondant and edible paints. Because I handle everything from structural engineering to painting the fine details, I need a bit of lead time. If you have an idea, share the story first. Tell me what makes the person special—is it their profession, a hidden hobby, or an inside joke? Once I have the brief, I start planning the figurine shapes. Working with fondant in Mumbai’s humidity is a task on its own. I use specific techniques and additives like Tylose to ensure the figures hold their shape and do not turn into a puddle, so you get clean lines and sharp edges on your celebration day. If you’re planning a birthday or a milestone, let’s make it something that tastes as good as it looks, with sponge bases that are actually moist and fresh. ## About Zoya Mulla I’m the rebel who ignored the ‘log kya kahenge’ talk to chase my dream of baking. I pour my heart into every cake because, for me, it’s about making your celebration feel real, not just another order.
