Our approach starts by managing the environment so your cat feels safe up high and your dog learns impulse control on the floor, gradually building positive associations without any stress. ### How We Manage Pet Introductions Introducing a new pet or getting existing pets to stop clashing is not about magic, it is about patience and safety. We work in your home, which is where your pets feel most comfortable, to manage their energy levels and establish boundaries. #### The Safety-First Approach We begin by ensuring the cat has safe, vertical spaces where they can observe the dog without feeling cornered. Simultaneously, we work with the dog to practice 'leave it' commands and impulse control. If your dog has a high prey drive, we focus on redirection techniques before any physical interaction is ever attempted. #### Gradual Desensitization Instead of full-contact meetings, we use a gradual process. We teach them to exist in the same room while being calm. This often involves: - **Scent swapping:** Getting them used to each other's presence through smell before sight. - **Controlled visual access:** Using gates or leashes so they can see one another without the risk of chasing or aggression. - **Positive reinforcement:** Rewarding both animals for calm, neutral behavior when they are near each other. #### Why This Works By removing the pressure to 'be friends' immediately, we allow them to set their own pace.
