For my fondant and sculpted cakes, I start with a layer of dark chocolate ganache before the covering, which gives those crisp, razor-sharp edges and prevents the fondant from bulging. If you are looking for a specific theme or a hand-painted design, I always start with a concept sketch so we are on the same page before I even turn on the oven. ### Turning Your Vision into Edible Art When I studied at fashion school in New York, I spent a lot of time with art history. I never expected that experience to inform my baking, but today, I use the cake surface as my canvas. Whether it is a two-tier Monet-inspired "Water Lilies" cake or a textured buttercream abstract piece, my goal is to blend visual art with delicious flavors. ### Modern Techniques I Use * **Hand-Painting:** Using edible watercolor paints, I can recreate specific patterns, floral themes, or even impressionist art directly onto fondant. * **Vintage Piping:** This trend is here to stay. Using classic buttercream and intricate shell borders, I can create that nostalgic, retro look with your own custom, quirky messages. * **Textured Buttercream:** I use palette knives, similar to those an oil painter would use, to create depth, movement, and abstract textures directly in the frosting. * **2D Cartoon Cakes:** These are labor-intensive but visually striking. By adding bold black outlines to the fondant, I create a flat, 2D comic book effect that looks like it jumped off the page. ### Quality You Can Taste Design is only half the battle. Because I use Callebaut chocolate and fresh fruit compotes, the inside of the cake is just as rich as the outside. For multi-tiered cakes, you are welcome to mix and match flavors for each layer. If you have an inspiration photo or a color palette from a dress or decor theme, send it over. We will talk through the design, and I will handle the structural details to ensure your cake looks perfect from the first photo to the last slice. ## About Sugar Blossoms Hi, I am Kajal. My background is actually in New York fashion school, where I geeked out on art history—which is why I now find myself painting cakes like Monet or sculpting figures from scratch. Making edible art is my therapy, and I would love to help bring your wildest party theme to life.
