We don't simply design layouts; we engineer mood, movement, and material usage so that a dim sum bar feels as intimate as a living room while handling the high-turnover traffic of a commercial venue. Winning the IIID Design Excellence Award for our work on Lucky Chan was a significant moment for us. It validated our shift away from standardized hospitality norms and toward a model that treats a restaurant like a cinematic experience. When we approach a commercial project, the goal is always to create a spatial narrative. For Lucky Chan, this meant layering industrial materials like brick and exposed ducting with softer, warmer elements to ensure that the room felt inviting despite the activity. We paid close attention to zoning—creating intimacy at the sushi bar while allowing the broader space to accommodate larger groups. Our work process involves deep coordination between the architectural team and specialty vendors for lighting, signage, and art. We design to solve problems, such as managing acoustics in a bustling dining hall or optimizing flow so service remains invisible and smooth.
