## About Residential Architecture

### What Home Means for Us

In Mumbai’s chaos, I know a home’s gotta be more than walls and a roof. For me, it’s about giving you a safe spot - a sanctuary where you can breathe, tune out the digital noise, and just feel at peace. Every project starts with this idea.

### How I Shape Your Space

I pay serious attention to how a home feels - not just how it looks. Here’s what I focus on:

- Multi-level layouts, like split-level home design, help create separate zones for living and working but still feel connected.
- I use double-height spaces and skylights. That’s where natural light architecture comes in, making spaces feel open and full of life.
- Windows aren’t just holes in the wall - I frame views of greenery, so you always feel close to nature, even in Mumbai.
- Arches and internal windows soften boundaries and keep air flowing.

### Details That Matter

- I believe small touches matter most. Custom staircase design is a favorite - slim, sculptural stairs in metal or wood that become a centerpiece, not just a path.
- Materials are authentic: teak, oak, marble, terrazzo, and even lime plaster for textured walls.
- I help pick and place art, so your home feels personal.

### The Mumbai Touch

From combining apartments into one big space to making duplexes with sea views, I work hands-on in Mumbai residential spaces. Every home is a one-off, built to be a true sanctuary home concept for the people living there.

## Meet your expert

[SML Architects](https://mytribe.in/studiomaheklalan)

### My story

We’re SML Architects, right in the middle of Mumbai’s madness. For us, the city’s noise pushes us to chase the opposite: quiet, rooted homes. Mahek always says a house should be calm and reflective, not just a place but a retreat. Had our first magazine cover – wrote ‘Look Ma, Cover’ – felt special, not just for the hype, but because it meant people get what we’re trying to do. We build homes that let you slow down and breathe.

### My work

- **Architecture, Interior & Furniture Design**: We design homes, interiors, and custom furniture, mostly for people who want a calm sanctuary.
- **Sanctuary Spaces**: Our thing is meditative residential spaces, places that feel peaceful and connected to nature.
- **Natural Materials Obsessed**: Teak wood furniture, natural stone interiors – we use honest materials for warmth and texture.
- **Details & Craft**: Every corner, every washbasin, every wall edge gets our attention. We like things precise and soulful.
- **Art-Filled Homes**: We love working with art collectors, making homes that double up as galleries for memories and objects.
