## About The Potter's Craft: A Look at the Process

If you are wondering what happens to your creation after the session, here is the reality: it does not leave with you that day. I personally oversee the glazing and firing process for every piece, which takes about 3 to 4 weeks. It is a slow, methodical wait, but holding the finished, food-safe ceramic piece you made is worth every minute of the delay.

The journey from raw clay to a finished bowl is a meditation in itself. When you step into my studio in Powai, we start with the basics of centering. This is the most crucial step on the wheel. It requires a steady hand and focus to ensure the clay is balanced. Once centered, we move to throwing, where the shape takes form.

After a piece is shaped, it enters the leather-hard stage. This is when I use a loop tool to trim the base, creating a clean foot for stability. It is the step that separates a hobby piece from a professional-looking vessel. From there, your piece needs to dry completely before it goes into the kiln for the first time, known as the bisque fire.

Then comes the fun part: glazing. I am very particular about this because I want every piece to be perfect before it leaves my sight. Whether it is hand-building with the coil method or turning a mug on the wheel, every step involves patience. Life hai bhidu, things sometimes crack in the kiln, and that is just part of the learning. But when you finally pick up your own handmade, glazed piece, you realize why this labor of love is so special.
