I’m right in the middle of it, dodging flying haldi and getting covered in color myself. Whether it’s dodging a splash from an excited aunt or capturing the quiet, sticky moment while henna is being applied, my goal is to get the shot that actually feels like what happened. You won’t find me asking anyone to hold a smile; I'm waiting for the one that breaks out when they aren't looking at the camera. ### Why Haldi and Mehendi are the best shoots I honestly believe these are the most real functions in any Indian wedding. The formal stuff matters, but the Haldi and Mehendi are where the guard comes down. People are just being themselves—messy, emotional, and loud. ### My approach to the chaos When I’m shooting these events, I’m looking for specific things: * **The Reactions:** That split-second look when someone realizes they've been ambushed with haldi. * **The Details:** The intricate patterns of the mehendi against the backdrop of a family home or a rented villa. * **The Connections:** The hugs, the feeding of sweets, and the way cousins crowd around to help. I don't bring heavy lighting rigs that make everything feel like a studio. I rely on natural light and keeping a low profile so I can capture genuine interactions without making anyone feel self-conscious. Whether you are hosting a small, intimate ceremony at home in Pune or a larger, rowdy celebration, my job is to make sure you have photos that bring you right back to the feeling of that day, not just how you looked. ### A note on your plans If you are worried about your venue being too small or the guest list being too chaotic, don't be. Some of my favorite photos have come from cramped spaces where everyone is squeezed in tight.
