# Vinit Khanna

We design sustainable architecture for residential, institutional, and large-scale projects like townships and airports. Our people-centric process balances robust engineering with the expressive beauty of local materials.

### [Public Infrastructure & Institutional Architecture](https://mytribe.in/spaceace.architects/public-infrastructure-institutional-architecture)

Takes projects across India; Visit studio in DLF Phase 3, Gurugram

Typically ₹45L-1.1CR per project (estimate)

- ![This is the Pakyong Airport in Sikkim, a project that required us to literally carve a runway out of the mountains. It represents my belief that architecture should serve people and connect communities, no matter the challenge. This aerial view shows the sheer scale of the geotechnical work involved in creating a stable, functional airstrip at 4,500 feet.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/dcf65181-b9f5-48a6-b092-1d3ff4a40f67)
- ![The Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID) in New Delhi, illuminated at dusk. I believe in creating spaces that feel right, and here, the combination of red brick, stone, and thoughtful lighting creates an inviting atmosphere for research and learning. This is an example of sustainable institutional architecture that stands the test of time.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/de54747e-2c6a-4d58-a4d2-b04505e9e8ee)
- ![A wider view of the Pakyong Airport, showing the terminal building set against the massive, terraced retaining walls we engineered. This was one of the tallest reinforcement walls in the world, a solution born from the need to work with, not against, the challenging Himalayan terrain. It highlights how engineering and nature can coexist.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/520fb881-0736-49e7-8aa1-ca1c595c21ef)

My design here uses natural materials and green spaces to build a campus that is both modern and grounded.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/a1c3d991-9371-41b2-a567-ea679c937709)
- ![This is a rendering of the new faculty building for IIT Kanpur, a project currently under construction. The design uses a modern architectural language while staying true to my preference for honest materials like brick, creating a facade that is both complex and orderly. It reflects my work in shaping the future of educational infrastructure.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/bf5d213d-9272-4e22-87b7-6b4162b3eae2)
- ![A feature on my work and philosophy in Ideal Home and Garden magazine. It’s important for me to not just build, but to also share the 'why' behind my process. I see architecture as a people-centric art, and this article captures my thoughts on material honesty and client collaboration.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/cb833a1c-0b16-4cd9-949c-e06a6f3b6fa1)

### [Sustainable Residential Architecture](https://mytribe.in/spaceace.architects/sustainable-residential-architecture)

Takes projects across Delhi NCR; Visit studio in DLF Phase 3, Gurugram

Typically ₹100-250 per sq ft (built-up area) (estimate)

- ![This home is a living example of bioclimatic architecture, designed to work in harmony with nature. The structure is built from Compressed Stabilised Earth Blocks (CSEB) made from the very soil of the site, minimizing our carbon footprint. This low-angle view from the basement level shows how every part of the home, including the stairways and bridges, is designed for natural light and ventilation.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/6ada8bc7-d480-4b80-b098-69707d5bde99)
- ![The interior of this home celebrates its "hand-made" origins, where every detail is intentional. I used exposed local quartzite stone for the walls to provide natural texture and thermal mass, contrasting it with modern glass and simple furnishings. This space demonstrates my belief that sustainable design can be both rustic and refined.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/02ee178d-e968-4b02-96c4-9ee411deb6b3)
- ![Here I am on the exterior bridge of the green home, a project that truly embodies my philosophy. My process involves being deeply connected to the site, guiding the use of hand-made materials and ensuring the design serves both the people within and the environment around it. This is how I help sow the seeds of a greener future.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/bbb6e6ec-a07c-4119-8521-7cdc4094136c)
- ![This is the basement lounge area, an earth-sheltered space that remains cool in the summer and warm in the winter without artificial systems. To bring in light, I incorporated a glass-panelled well, turning a structural necessity into a source of beauty. This approach to energy conservation and natural light is central to my work.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/f2d8be64-6057-4ec6-9e79-2c3d8293c627)
- ![The entrance to a home should be a transition from the outside world into a personal sanctuary. Here, the pathway is framed by walls of Delhi quartzite stone and an arched brick gateway, materials sourced locally for their durability and character. The design invites a connection with the natural elements from the very first step.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/a38f9cdb-5815-4e9a-a3e3-168afbb9e9a1)

## Meet your expert

### My story

Started Space Ace way back in '91. Geometry, physics, architecture - all tangled up in my head. But I’m a people person, so it’s always been about the client, the land, and the budget. My own home? That’s my pride - built it with mud, stone, glass, wood, you name it. Bioclimatic house, straight from the site’s soil. Shibani, my wife, let me go wild with ideas. For me, architecture is like music, just frozen.

### My work

- **Our Services**: We do institutional and residential architecture, green homes, airports, townships, convention centres, museums - all with a sustainable lens.
- **Green & Sustainable Focus**: We use local materials like compressed stabilized earth blocks, keeping buildings comfy and budgets sane.
- **Engineering Meets Art**: Big projects, tricky sites - like Pakyong Airport’s runway up in the mountains. We balance engineering and nature.
- **Design Process**: No fixed style. We listen first, then shape the project around you and the site. Collaboration is key.
