My lessons go beyond basic steps to help you master *compas*—the rhythmic cycles that define the art form—and the Andalusian storytelling traditions behind the music. Whether you are a total beginner or a dancer looking to add texture to your choreography, we start by listening to the pulse of the music to make your movement feel natural and authentic. ### Understanding the Pillars of Flamenco Flamenco is a conversation between the dancer (*baile*), the singer (*cante*), and the guitarist (*toque*). Many beginners focus only on footwork, but the true essence lies in the *compas*. In my Mumbai workshops, we break down these complex 12-count rhythms so you can actually feel the music rather than just counting it. ### The Andalusian Connection My teaching philosophy is rooted in the streets of Jerez and Seville. Just like the *Cantes de Ida y Vuelta*—styles that traveled to Latin America and returned with new flavors—Flamenco itself is constantly evolving. I bring these cultural insights into the studio so you understand why a specific movement carries a certain emotion. ### What You Can Expect - **Small Batches:** Whether in Bandra or Khar, I cap in-studio sessions at 8 to 10 students. This ensures I can physically adjust your posture and help you find your unique style. - **Rhythm & Theory:** We don't just dance; we learn the theory of *palmas* (hand clapping) and vocal phrasing, providing a foundation that allows you to improvise confidently. - **Community Focus:** You are not just joining a class; you are part of the SCFA *familia*. We host screenings and singing circles to keep the community vibrant and connected. From online Zoom sessions for global learners to specialized intensive workshops in Mumbai, my goal is to demystify this beautiful art form and help you find your own dance story. ## About Shehzeen Cassum I am Shehzeen, and for me, Flamenco is more than just steps—it is a way of life that started in the streets of Andalusia. I bridge the gap between Indian studios and Spanish roots, bringing you a community that feels like family. Come join our *familia* and find your rhythm.
