You do not need a professional studio to start. Just pick up some coffee powder, a bit of water, and a brush. It is a forgiving, aromatic medium that lets you practice shading and tonal values without the anxiety of working with expensive, permanent paints. Art is not about expensive kits or rigid rules. It is about *dhyey* (purpose) and finding peace in the process. In my studio, we keep things simple so that you can focus on your own journey, not on being perfect. ### Coffee Painting: Your Kitchen is the Studio Painting with coffee is one of my favorite lessons. It is accessible, smells wonderful, and is incredibly easy to clean up. It teaches you how to build light-to-dark layers, which is a fundamental skill in almost all painting styles. Because it is affordable, you can experiment freely without the fear of 'wasting' materials. ### Fluid Art: Let Go of Control If you find it hard to stop worrying about lines and shapes, fluid art is for you. This technique is about pouring paint and tilting the canvas, letting gravity and liquid physics create the patterns. It is a beautiful way to practice detachment. You provide the intent, but the colors decide the final result. It is incredibly therapeutic for anyone feeling overwhelmed by daily life. ### Wet-Into-Wet Watercolors For those who love portraits, the wet-into-wet technique is magic. By keeping your paper damp, colors bloom and blend softly into each other. It creates those gentle, expressive transitions you see in my portraits. Whether you are a senior looking for a new hobby or an adult needing a creative break, my studio in Juhu is a space where you can come as you are. Helping you find your voice through these techniques is *meri tapassya ka phal* (the fruit of my penance). Let us create something together. ## About Shefali Raj I’m Shefali, and I’ve been teaching art since 1988, but my students are still the ones teaching me. I believe art is not a race for perfect lines, but a way to find your own voice and maybe a little peace of mind.
