## About The Art of Alignment: Yoga with Props

When you see me using a chair for a shoulderstand or wall ropes for a backbend, it’s not to make the pose easier. It’s to make it sustainable. These tools allow your spine to decompress and your muscles to relax in ways that floor-based practice sometimes can’t. If you’re used to struggling through poses, try this approach. It changes your relationship with the mat.

At my Hauz Khas studio, I believe yoga is for everyone. If your hamstrings feel tight or your back needs a little extra love, props are your best friends. We use Iyengar-inspired techniques—think wall ropes, wooden blocks, bolsters, and sturdy chairs—to adapt every asana to your unique anatomy.

Many students ask me if using props makes a practice 'less than' the real thing. I tell them the opposite. It’s the most intelligent way to practice. By using wall ropes for supported inversions, you aren't just hanging; you're allowing your spine to lengthen without the fear of falling, which helps calm your nervous system. This support is crucial for anyone dealing with tightness or recovery, allowing you to stay in poses long enough to actually feel the change.

My goal is to help you build a lifelong practice, not just nail a pose for a photo. Whether we're using a belt to gently open your shoulders or a bolster to support a Yin pose, the focus is always on alignment, safety, and kindness to yourself. Come by the studio, let’s breathe and move together. We’ll find the right setup for your body, regardless of whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced yogi.
