We balanced the vivid Gond paintings by anchoring them with heavy, traditional teak wood carvings and muted, earthy floor patterns. This creates a visual rhythm that directs the eye, ensuring the art enhances the architecture rather than competing with it. In designing the House of Gond, our goal was to move beyond interior styling and create an environment that breathes with cultural heritage. We approached the floor plan as a sequence of portals, using Chettinad pillars to transition between the living and private zones. This architectural rhythm ensures that the home feels like an artistic gallery rather than a series of disconnected rooms. Our material palette relied on grounding the modern maximalist design with history. The teak wood carvings, sourced to reflect indigenous craftsmanship, provide a sturdy, warm framework for the space. By pairing these with the geometric precision of Karaikudi tile patterns, we created a grounded foundation that allowed the vibrant Gond art pieces to stand out as focal points. The louvered shutters were chosen not just for their aesthetic, but for the way they filter light, creating a living shadow play that shifts throughout the day.
