If you join us at Kalangan, you won't just learn rigid technique; you’ll discover why we do what we do, and how those personal traditions breathe soul into the art. For me, Bharatanatyam is not just about the stage. It is about the Golu dolls passed down from my grandparents, the 200-year-old vilakku (lamp) in our home, and the deep, loving bond I share with my students. ### The Guru-Shishya Bond When you step into my studio, you are not just a student; you become part of our Kalangan family. We believe that the guru-shishya relationship is like that of a mother and child. Whether we are celebrating Mother’s Day or working through the nuances of a complex padam, the environment is one of guidance, shared joy, and safety. This is where my students feel comfortable enough to truly express themselves. ### Bringing Tradition to Life Everything I teach, I carry from my Amma, Smt. Jamuna Krishnan. Her choreography and her devotion to North Indian bhakti poets are the foundation of my work. When I run workshops on abhinaya (expression), I am not just teaching facial movements or mudras. I am teaching you how to live the story. We break down the Navarasas—the nine emotions—and explore how to embody a character so that the dance feels personal and authentic to you. ### Join the Kalangan Community Whether you are looking for custom solo choreography for an event, or you want to dive deep into the technical and emotional layers of Bharatanatyam through our intensive modules, I am here to guide you. We work out of my studio in Delhi, and I also travel for lecture-demonstrations where we peel back the history and mythology of this art form.
