Stainless steel back plates are ideal, but if the watch has an open movement or a curved glass back, we will need to explore alternative placement like the buckle or the side of the casing. I always assess your piece first to ensure we can create something beautiful without compromising the watch's integrity. Engraving a watch or piece of jewelry is about more than just adding a name; it is about taking a mass-produced item and giving it a soul. Every swirl of the script and every letter is carved by my hand, not a machine, using a rotary tool to create a deep, permanent impression. For watches, the most popular choice is the stainless steel case back. It is the perfect canvas for anniversaries, birthdays, or milestone promotions. Whether you want a short love note, a meaningful date, or a name, I can usually fit quite a bit of detail there. If the watch back is crowded with manufacturer text, we can look at the inner buckle or the side of the casing. When it comes to jewelry like pendants, bracelets, or cufflinks, the challenge shifts to scale. I work on very dainty, high-value pieces like Kate Spade bracelets or minimal gold pendants. Because these surfaces are small, I recommend keeping the text short—a single initial, a date, or a tiny symbol like a heart or a sparkle works best. My process is careful and measured. I start by mapping out the layout to ensure it fits perfectly, then I hand-engrave the design. If you want the text to pop, I can fill the grooves with gold, silver, or copper wax paste, which creates a striking contrast against the metal.
