It is validation for the local karigars we work with and our 13-year commitment to keeping spaces raw, real, and rooted in the stories of the people who live in them. Our journey as a design practice in Mumbai has never been about following trends. Whether it is a commercial office or an experiential installation, we approach every project with the same intent: to create a space that feels like a warm hug rather than a showroom. ### Recognition and The D/List We are grateful to be named to the D/List 2024 for the second consecutive season. This recognition from GoodHomes and Trends Magazine acknowledges our practice as one of India's finer design firms. For us, this is a nod to our 'transitional' aesthetic—that delicate balance of the raw and the refined that defines a Purple Backyard project. ### In Conversation with Livingetc Our feature in the April 2025 print issue of Livingetc India was a deeply personal moment. It allowed us to articulate our human-centered approach to design. We spoke about the importance of materiality, the role of Indian craftsmanship, and why we believe a commercial workspace should be as soulful as a private home. ### The 13-Year Evolution Scale Magazine captured our growth over the last decade and more. From our early days as a young design practice to where we are now, the conversation highlighted the evolution of our design philosophy. It is a reminder that design is a wild ride, and we are still just getting started. If you are looking for design that tells your story rather than mimicking a magazine catalog, we would love to connect. ## About Purple Backyard I started Purple Backyard 13 years ago in Mumbai to build homes that feel like a warm hug, not a showroom. We collaborate with local artisans to layer spaces with real, lived-in character, and seeing that approach resonate with the design community means the world to us.
