My approach moves away from yelling, which just adds stress, and toward setting your dog up for success. We focus on controlling the environment, understanding triggers, and meeting their unmet needs, so you can stop reacting to chaos and start enjoying your time together. We often fall into the trap of reactive parenting. Your dog barks, so you yell. Your dog pulls, so you tug the leash. This cycle creates frustration and erodes trust. Proactive parenting is different. It is about environmental management, meeting physical and mental needs, and observing your dog’s communication before they reach a breaking point. In my Masterclasses, we break this down into actionable steps. We look at leash pulling not as a sign of dominance, but as a dog trying to explore the world. We look at barking not as 'naughty' behavior, but as a response to triggers they do not know how to handle. By managing the environment—closing curtains, using baby gates, or offering enrichment puzzles—you allow your dog the space to learn new habits without the pressure of constant correction.
