Before you book that train ticket or hotel, we need to check if your dog is actually comfortable just existing in new spaces. If your dog can’t settle at a quiet cafe near home, they won't settle in a busy railway station. I help you build that 'settle' skill long before you pack your bags, so the journey itself becomes stress-free for both of you. Traveling with a dog in India has become more accessible, especially with updated rules for train travel and more pet-friendly cafes popping up in Delhi and Gurgaon. However, bringing a reactive or anxious dog into these environments without preparation often leads to chaos. ### Why Prep Matters Many owners assume their dog will just 'adjust' to a train ride or a hotel room. In reality, travel is full of new triggers: strange smells, loud noises, and people walking by. If your dog hasn't practiced staying calm in these contexts, they will likely experience stress, which can lead to barking, reactivity, or worse, shutting down. ### The 'Art of Doing Nothing' I teach a foundational skill called 'capturing calmness'. This isn't a command; it's a state of being. We start by rewarding your dog for choosing to lie down and relax in familiar environments. Once they master this at home, we gradually generalize it to parks, then outdoor cafes, and finally, busier travel hubs. ### Navigating Indian Railways Train travel is a fantastic way to see the country with your dog, but the booking process requires attention to detail. - **Booking:** Always aim for a coupe or cabin in 1st AC. - **The Paperwork:** Keep your vaccination records, fit-to-travel certificate, and booking receipts handy. - **The Reality:** The parcel office can be noisy and overwhelming. I always recommend carrying your dog if they are small, or using a long-line lead to give them space if they are large, until you are safely in your cabin. ### Know Your Dog's Limits Not every dog is a travel dog. If your dog is scared of strangers or has severe separation anxiety, a long train journey might be harmful to their mental health. We can work together to assess your dog's current behavior and decide if a trip is the right choice, or if a high-quality boarding setup would be safer for everyone. ## About Kirti Tripathi I'm Kirti. I've navigated train trips and hotel stays with my own dogs, Candy and Russel, so I know exactly what works and what causes stress. I help you build the skills your dog needs to actually enjoy your travels, rather than just tolerating them.
