In our foundation batches at our Jayanagar studio, we focus on the mechanics of your hand—how to control a pencil, create depth with a value scale, and observe light as it falls on an object. Please note that for these offline sessions, we ask students to bring their own pencils and sketchbooks, as we believe owning your tools is the first step toward building a personal practice. ### Building Your Artistic Foundation We often hear people say they cannot draw because they lack 'talent'. In our experience, drawing is a skill built through observation and practice. Our foundation course is designed to take you from a blank page to a finished sketch by stripping away the intimidation of art. #### What We Cover * **Pencil Control:** Developing your grip, pressure, and the ability to create consistent, clean lines. * **Light and Shadow:** Understanding how to use a value scale to give your drawings three-dimensional form. * **Perspective:** Learning to view the world in shapes and angles, which is critical for sketching buildings, landscapes, and objects correctly. * **Subject Studies:** We practice on still life, simple nature elements like leaves and birds, and structured environments to reinforce these lessons. #### Our Approach Our Gurukul environment in Jayanagar is intentionally quiet and minimal. We provide live demonstrations where you can watch the technique happen in real-time, followed by guided practice. We keep our batches small to ensure that even if you feel stuck, someone is there to help you adjust your angle or your pressure. #### Offline vs. Online If you join us at our studio, you benefit from the tactile, unplugged atmosphere of a shared learning space. If you prefer to learn from home, our live online foundation course offers the same syllabus over 16 sessions, with the instructor demonstrating techniques via a live camera feed. Both paths require the same commitment: consistency over speed. ## About Pencil and Chai We started back in 2011 with a simple idea: a pencil, a sketchbook, and a warm cup of chai. At our Jayanagar Gurukul, we don't believe in shortcuts; we are here to guide you through the honest, step-by-step process of learning to see the world like an artist.
