Whether you are sketching in our Jayanagar studio or painting outdoors at Cubbon Park, you will find no shortcuts here, just steady, step-by-step guidance designed to help you find your own creative rhythm. ### The Gurukul Way We started Pencil & Chai back in 2011 with a simple idea: art shouldn't be about instant perfection. It started with a sketchbook and a cup of chai in an open park, and today, that same spirit lives on in our Jayanagar studio. We call it a 'Gurukul' because we believe in passing down knowledge through observation and regular practice. ### Our Process We keep our batches small on purpose. This isn't just about teaching you a technique; it is about ensuring that if you get stuck on a shading gradient or a proportion in your portrait, we are right there to help you fix it. You won't find us rushing through a syllabus. We prefer to spend time on the fundamentals—line quality, perspective, and light—until they become second nature to your hand. ### What We Offer * **Foundation Sketching:** We start from the basics. No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to observe the world closely. * **Advanced Portrait & Charcoal:** For those who want to dive deeper into anatomy and expression. * **Painting & Color:** From watercolors to colored pencils, we help you understand how to mix, layer, and control your medium. * **Indian Folk Art:** We are deeply committed to keeping heritage art forms like Chittaara and Kalamkari alive through hands-on workshops. Whether you are looking for a weekend escape in the park or a dedicated studio course, we invite you to come, sit, and create with us. ## About Pencil and Chai We started Pencil & Chai in 2011 because we wanted to bring the outdoors into the classroom. We aren't just teaching you to draw; we are helping you find a quiet, creative space to slow down and practice.
