Whether you are learning the symmetric geometry of Chittaara or the narrative scrolls of Cheriyal, our sessions focus on the 'why' behind every brushstroke, helping you move from simply copying patterns to truly understanding the artist's perspective. ### Understanding the Roots Art is more than just visuals. When you sit down with a brush in our Jayanagar studio, you are not just learning to paint; you are engaging with history. Folk arts like Chittaara and Saura were originally created to document daily village life, rituals, and the deep connection between humans and nature. We believe that to truly master these forms, you must understand their origin. ### Our Approach to Traditional Art We structure our workshops to honor the slow, deliberate nature of traditional folk painting. Whether it is the dash-and-dot rhythm of Warli or the 400-year-old storytelling tradition of Cheriyal scrolls, we guide you through the process: * **Technique First:** We focus on the geometry, the motifs, and the specific brushstrokes that define the art form. * **Cultural Context:** We discuss the mythology, the community significance, and the natural materials historically used in these paintings. * **Hands-on Practice:** You work on assignments that build your confidence, moving from basic motifs to complex, finished compositions. ### Why Choose Our Gurukul? We keep our batches small to ensure that you receive personalized feedback. You don't need prior experience to start. Whether you are looking for a weekend immersion to relax or a deeper dive into folk art foundation, our space is designed to remove the pressure. It is just you, the canvas, and a supportive environment where we value your journey as much as the final piece. Come, discover the artist within you. ## About Pencil and Chai We are a community of artists who believe art is a practice, not just a project.
