## About Styling: From Blow-Dries to Curls

Ever wonder why your blow-dry loses shape in an hour? Most students focus too much on heat and forget the cool shot button. After you heat the hair to shape it, you must blast it with cool air before pulling the brush away. This freezes the style in place. In my classes, we don't just watch; we practice this until you understand exactly how to lock in a volume or a curl.

Styling is the final step that connects a haircut to a finished look. Whether you are aiming for smooth in-curls that add weight to a U-cut or precise out-curls for layered styles, the technique is about control. 

### Why Technique Beats Heat
It is not just about the dryer. Your brush choice decides the outcome. If you want tight, long-lasting curls, you need a smaller brush. For volume and bounce, a medium-large round brush is your best friend. I teach my students to move away from the 'flat' look and understand how to lift at the roots to create body.

### The Process We Follow:
*   **Sectioning:** If your sectioning is messy, your blow-dry will never look polished. We practice clean, controlled sections first.
*   **Polishing:** The brush must move smoothly through the hair. Think of it like polishing wood—the more consistent your motion, the smoother the hair falls.
*   **Heat Management:** We learn to maintain a consistent distance between the dryer and the brush to protect the hair, while using the nozzle to direct the airflow exactly where needed.
