If you hold your comb at the wrong degree—like 45 degrees for a center parting—your lines will go crooked. I teach my students exactly how to place their fingers and comb so the section is 'one-go' clean, meaning you don't have to stop and fix your lines halfway through a haircut or color application. ### Why Sectioning is the Most Important Step Many people think advanced hairdressing is only about the cut or the color. I tell my students at my Powai academy that if you cannot section hair, you cannot control the outcome. Clean sectioning is the difference between a amateur look and a professional finish. ### The Three Core Lines In my training, we break down hair movement into three fundamental directions. Mastering these allows you to execute any style you see in a magazine or video: 1. **Horizontal (Flat) Lines:** We use these for root touch-ups, blunt cuts, and blow-drying. The line must be absolutely uniform. 2. **Diagonal (Slanted) Lines:** These are your best friend for building shape. Whether it is diagonal forward or diagonal back, these lines create the layering effect we need for modern styles. 3. **Vertical (Standing) Lines:** Crucial for layering and removing weight. If you want to master graduation or texturizing, you must learn to stand your sections up correctly. ### Practical Learning vs. Videos You can watch YouTube all day, but you cannot learn the tension required to hold a section until you do it on a mannequin or a live model. My 3-month and 6-month courses in Mumbai are designed to take you from 'video watcher' to 'working stylist.'
