Whether it's your new puppy's first bath or a rescue dog needing a patient touch, we focus on building trust first, not just finishing the trim. ## Photos and videos - [Video: Conditioning is key for a lifetime of stress-free vet visits and grooming. Instead, we use desensitization techniques to turn grooming into a positive experience. If your dog is nervous, we start with distractions—like lick mats coated in peanut butter or yogurt—while slowly introducing grooming tools. We also use soft ear wraps to dampen the noise of our high-velocity dryers, ensuring the sound doesn't trigger fear during the drying process. ### Why Your Dog's First Grooming Matters Many behavioural issues stem from early, negative experiences. When a dog is dragged to a grooming table and forced into a wash, it creates a lasting fear response. Our goal at the ranch is to prevent this. We focus on 'human training' as much as the actual grooming, teaching you how to handle your pet so that future vet visits and baths become easy, cooperative processes rather than struggles. ### Our Approach to Nervous Dogs Not every dog is ready for a full grooming session on day one. We take it slow, respecting the individual needs of every pup: * **Gradual Exposure:** We introduce the grooming table, the slip leash, and the touch of our hands in small, manageable steps. * **Noise Management:** High-velocity dryers are loud and frightening for many dogs. We use gentle wraps and careful handling to keep the noise muffled until they feel secure. * **Positive Reinforcement:** We use high-value treats and distractions to keep the focus off the equipment and on the reward. ### Puppy Care in Whitefield Puppies are like sponges—they learn quickly, for better or worse. We recommend starting their grooming journey early. By handling their paws, checking their ears, and exposing them to the grooming environment in a controlled, loving way, we set them up for a lifetime of comfort. If your puppy tends to bite or nip during grooming, we work on redirection techniques that teach them to settle down instead. Whether you have a high-energy Golden Retriever puppy or a rescue with past trauma, our team in Whitefield works at your dog's pace. We are not just grooming them; we are building their confidence. ## About Poochkoo Mutts & Nutts We’re Mutts & Nutts, and we’re obsessed with building confidence in every dog we meet.
