Whether it is a first-time throw or someone coming back for our 4-week course, we do not just focus on the technique, we focus on the feeling. Most of the pieces you see here started as messy balls of clay that students turned into functional mugs and bowls, and then spent hours carefully glazing and painting to make them truly theirs. Pottery is more than just making a mug; it is about slowing down. In our Whitefield studio, the atmosphere is all about relaxing and letting the creative energy flow. When you join a workshop—whether it is a 2-hour intro or a deep-dive 4-week course—my goal is for you to leave with something you actually love. The journey usually starts with centering clay on the wheel, which is tricky but so satisfying once you get the hang of it. After that, we move to trimming, where we carve away the excess to refine the shape, and finally, the glazing stage. This is where the magic happens. You will see students painting everything from delicate flowers to quirky, abstract patterns on their bisque-fired creations. I believe in hands-on guidance. That is why our sessions are small and personal. Whether you are trying hand-building to craft a custom sculpture or learning the mechanics of wheel throwing, I am right there to guide your hands and share the secrets of the kiln. Seeing a student’s face light up when they pull their own creation out of the kiln after a few weeks?
