I use 100% natural henna mixed with essential oils like eucalyptus, which sets the foundation for a strong color. For the best result, the most important step happens after I leave: keep the design dry and avoid water for the first 12 hours so the dye can fully oxidize on your skin. ### Why the Stain Matters In our culture, the depth of the mehandi stain is a sign of good fortune and tradition. This locks in the moisture, keeping the henna active on your skin for a longer period. ### Your 4-Step Guide to Darker Stains To ensure your mehandi develops that beautiful dark brown tone, follow these steps: 1. **Leave it on:** Keep the dried paste on your skin for at least 6-8 hours. Overnight is always the best option if possible. 2. **Avoid Water:** Do not wash off the dried mehandi with water or soap for the first 12 hours. Moisture hinders the oxidation process. 3. **Heat the Hands:** After scraping off the dried henna, warm your palms over the smoke of cloves (laung). This traditional method gently helps the color darken. 4. **Protect the Design:** After your first wash, apply coconut or mustard oil to the area. This creates a protective barrier and keeps the stain glowing for days.
