Whether it is the structured precision of 1920s finger waves or the specific volume needed for a 90s retro puff, these styles rely on exact product application and technique to ensure they hold their shape throughout an entire event. When you are dressing for a specific era or a high-profile red carpet, the hair and makeup must be technically accurate to look authentic in photos and in person. My approach to red carpet and themed styling is to treat the hair as an architectural element of the outfit. For the GQ Best Dressed event, I executed 1920s-inspired finger waves. This style is notoriously difficult because it relies on zero-frizz control and precise setting. If the hair isn't prepped with the right amount of structure, the waves fall flat before the event even starts. Similarly, for concert styling, like the look I created for Sanjana Sanghi at the Coldplay concert, the priority shifts. You need a style that looks polished but is also practical enough to handle hours of movement. We opted for a half-updo with beachy waves—something that kept the hair off her face but maintained that effortless, concert-ready aesthetic. I also handle themed photoshoots, like the 90s retro series. A look like that is about cohesion.
