If you pump out all your foundation at once, it starts drying before it even touches the face. I teach my students to work in small, fresh amounts. It keeps the texture smooth, prevents cracking, and gives you total control over the blend. It's these small, disciplined habits that separate a hobbyist from a professional. ### Understanding Your Canvas Makeup is engineering. If the skin isn't prepped correctly, nothing you put on top will last. I walk my students through the science of skin prep, teaching them to massage moisturizer in properly, while being careful not to over-grease the under-eye area—a common mistake that causes concealer to slide. ### The 'Ashy' vs. 'Cakey' Problem We spend significant time on color theory. Students often struggle with bases that look gray or 'ashy' on deeper skin tones. I do live swatch tests on the hand to show exactly how to distinguish between pink and yellow undertones. If you aren't testing, you're guessing. And when it comes to coverage, I teach a 'buildable' technique rather than a heavy-handed mask, ensuring the face looks even-toned but natural. ### Why Technique Beats Trends Anyone can follow a social media trend, but pros understand the 'why.' * **Cream vs. Liquid:** We discuss the cost-effectiveness and finish of different products, so you know exactly what to buy and what to ignore. * **The Mixing Method:** I show you how to mix textures so you don't waste product. * **Seamless Sculpting:** Contouring shouldn't look like stripes.
