From the bold geometry of ancestral Calcutta homes to contemporary Indian folklore, these are the elements that fuel our creative process. ## Photos and videos - ![A detail from a custom bar unit we designed for an upcoming project. Whether it’s referencing the bold Art Deco geometry of a 1940s home for a custom door design or using contemporary Indian illustration to bring character to a bar unit, we look for elements that bridge the gap between personal memory and daily utility. If you have a specific story or an heirloom piece you want to weave into your space, let’s talk about how to frame it. ### Our Approach to Narrative Design Design is rarely about starting from a blank slate. Instead, it is about observation. When we design a luxury residence or a boutique hospitality space, we look for the narrative thread that will tie the environment together. This could be as tangible as a color palette pulled from a traditional textile or as conceptual as the mood of a jazz bar. #### Extracting Meaning We believe that every detail counts. Our process involves: * **Historical Research:** Looking at the provenance of materials—like the marble in ancestral homes or the history of a specific wall treatment—to inform modern application. * **Craft Integration:** Partnering with artisans to ensure that the handmade elements in your home carry their own stories, whether it's pottery, weaving, or stone carving. * **Modern Juxtaposition:** Placing heritage details in a pared-back, modern canvas. This prevents a space from feeling like a museum and ensures it remains a functional, comfortable home. #### A Personal Touch Most of our clients come to us because they want a space that feels deeply personal, not mass-produced. They are often looking for ways to integrate their own history into a new build. Whether it is reinterpreting a family heirloom or creating a custom feature inspired by your travels, we approach these details with the same rigor we apply to our commercial projects. If you are looking for an interior design partner who values meaning as much as aesthetics, we would love to collaborate on your vision. ## About Maia Design Studio I’m Shruti, and I believe that every space should hold a narrative.
