It validates our technical choice to use traditional brick jali walls to solve modern climate challenges. When we design these screens, we are not just creating a pattern, we are building a passive cooling system that filters harsh light and provides a breathable, shaded environment for people to gather comfortably. While we are humble about the attention our work has received, being included in Harvard GSD’s research project 'Architectures of Transition' and winning global design awards reinforces our belief in 'slow architecture.' ### Why Our Approach Resonates Design is rarely about a singular moment of inspiration. It is a process of listening to the site, understanding the local context, and responding with materials that age gracefully. When our work, such as the Dr. Vishnuvardhan Memorial, is recognized, it is usually because the jury identified this connection between the building and the people who inhabit it. ### Projects in the Spotlight - **Dr. Vishnuvardhan Memorial:** This project serves as a case study for using vernacular materials like brick to create public spaces. By focusing on the 'in-between' spaces—courtyards and shaded corridors—we created an environment that encourages interaction rather than just observation. - **CMR University:** Featured in research on emerging South Asian practices, this project highlights our focus on modular design. We prioritize creating environments that can adapt to the changing needs of a growing campus, ensuring the building remains functional and relevant over decades. ### Our Design Philosophy Our work remains rooted in biophilic design, even in dense urban settings like Bengaluru. We integrate bio-ponds, courtyards, and kinetic facades not as luxury additions, but as essential tools to bridge the gap between indoor life and the natural world. Every award or publication is simply an invitation for us to keep asking how we can make our buildings more liveable, breathable, and community-centric. ## About M9 Design Studio We are M9 Design Studio, and we view buildings as living canvases. We don't just put up walls; we invite nature inside, using traditional materials like brick and lime plaster to build spaces that feel timeless and deeply rooted in their location.
