If you start with thin or 'slinky' synthetic yarn, your hook will slip, the stitches won't show, and you will get frustrated before you even begin. Grab a matte, medium-weight cotton or acrylic blend. It grabs the hook better and lets you actually see where you are putting your needle. It makes the difference between quitting in an hour and finishing your first coaster. I started this journey when I was lost, and I want to make sure your first steps into the world of crochet are guided by patience rather than frustration. Whether you are learning through my online tutorials or sitting with me in a Bangalore cafe, the goal is always the same: *dheeme dheeme* (slowly, slowly) finding your rhythm. ### Why Start with the Basics? Many people try to jump into complex patterns like sweaters or intricate blankets too early. This is how you burn out. Start with the 'Three Cs': Coasters, Chords, and Chains. These small projects help you master your hook grip and tension without the pressure of needing a perfect final result. When you learn to read a basic pattern, your options open up significantly. ### My Workshop & Kit Approach I teach in a way that prioritizes the 'feel' of the yarn over strict technical perfection. If you are in Bangalore, my cafe workshops are designed to be a safe space where you can ask questions about grip, stitch counting, and tension correction in real-time. We keep the groups small for that specific reason. If you prefer to learn at home, my DIY kits come with the same high-visibility yarn I use in my sessions.
