Every piece is a slow, manual process where I layer cotton or silk threads to build up the image, mimicking brush strokes. Because it is all done by hand, expect a 3D texture that catches light differently than a flat painting. If you are planning to commission one, keep in mind that the depth and detail require a specific frame style to protect the thread work, which I handle as part of the setup. Thread painting is about patience. Unlike a brushstroke, you are placing individual strands to mimic shading and light. It gives a sculptural quality that a flat canvas just cannot match. When I start an A1 piece, it takes anywhere between 25 to 40 hours of focused effort. Why choose thread art for your space? It brings immediate warmth and curiosity to a room. People naturally want to touch it. I use high-quality cotton and silk embroidery threads, layering them on heavy-duty boards to ensure the texture holds up. Commissioning a piece: Whether you have a specific portrait in mind or a design you want to see come to life, the process is simple. Send me a high-quality reference photo. We will discuss the size and the color palette. Once the thread work is done, I seal it with a light fixative to ensure the colors stay vibrant and prevent dust accumulation, then finish it with a deep, custom box frame designed to hold the depth of the art. ## About Kum Kum Art I'm Kum Kum. I graduated from Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, but you will find me happiest with a needle and thread or my sketchbook. For me, art is about scrubbing off the dust of daily life and making the world a little more colourful, one thread at a time.
