I work on medium cotton canvas using heavy-body acrylics, carefully rendering details like traditional jewellery or the specific texture of a saree. Whether you want to merge separate photos of grandparents into one frame or need a tribute piece for a loved one, I spend time getting the expression just right before sealing it with a gloss varnish for longevity. ### Why a Hand-Painted Portrait? Photographs are fleeting, but a painting carries the weight of the moment. My approach to family and generational art is rooted in realism, where I focus heavily on facial features and the warmth of a smile. ### My Process 1. **The Vision:** Share your reference photos. If you have separate images—like a grandparent and a grandchild who never met—I can combine them into a single composition to create that generational bond. 2. **The Sketch:** Before the paint touches the canvas, I share an outline sketch. This is where we ensure the expressions and placement feel natural. 3. **The Painting:** Using heavy-body professional acrylics, I build up layers to capture light, skin tones, and details like embroidery or gold jewellery. 4. **The Protection:** Each portrait is finished with a UV-resistant gloss varnish, ensuring the colours stay vibrant for years to come. ### Frequently Asked Questions **Can you paint from old, blurry photos?** I prefer clear photos as they allow me to capture more detail. If the photo is old, I may need a bit of guidance on specific colours or features, but I am happy to discuss what is possible. **Do you frame the paintings?** I deliver the artwork safely rolled in a sturdy tube, ready for you to take to your local framer. This ensures the canvas arrives without damage. **How long does it take?** Art is not something I rush. Depending on the size and number of subjects, it typically takes a few weeks. I will keep you posted throughout the process. ## About Karishma Joshi I am Karishma, and for me, painting is not just about finishing a canvas. It is about capturing the soul of a family.
