If you are anxious, your dog will be too. I don't give you 'magic' tips that sound good in theory; I give you the uncomfortable reality of setting boundaries and building a relationship based on respect, not just constant pampering. ### Your Vibe is Your Dog’s Life Most pet parents think training is just about teaching a dog to 'sit' or 'stay'. That is the bare minimum. Real training is about how you exist in the house. Are you inconsistent? Do you give in to every whim because the puppy looks cute? That is how you create a monster. If your dog is biting, destroying furniture, or acting aggressive, stop blaming the breed or the 'stubbornness' of your dog. Start looking at your own routine. ### The 'Responsible' Checklist Before you bring a dog home, ask yourself these three things: * **Physical Reality:** Can you actually control the breed you want when they go crazy? A 50kg Rottweiler needs a handler, not just an owner. * **Financial Logic:** Do you have a buffer for medical emergencies and good nutrition? Kibble is cheap, but fixing skin allergies and hip dysplasia will drain your pocket. * **Emotional Stability:** Are you getting a dog to fix your loneliness or depression? That is a disaster waiting to happen. Fix your mental state first, because your dog will absorb every bit of your stress. ### Why 'No' is the Most Important Word Many of you are scared to say no to your dog because you think it’s 'mean'. It is not mean to keep your dog out of the kitchen, off the bed if they are resource guarding, or inside a crate for their own safety. Crates are not cages; they are dens. Used correctly, they build independence. If you teach your dog that you are the one in charge, you both get a much happier life.
