I explain how using a strong wood like teak allows for beautiful customizations like brass inlays and jaali work, ensuring your mandir is both durable and divine.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/d1237fa9-28bf-419a-a6d3-74a3915d0970) ## About Sacred Spaces: Pooja Units When designing a mandir, the choice of wood is everything. I always recommend teak for its durability and rich grain, which allows for the intricate carvings and brass inlay work that last for generations. It is not just about the look. It is about ensuring the structure can hold the bells, idols, and heavy brass elements securely while maintaining that serene, traditional vibe you want in your home. Designing a pooja unit is a delicate balance of spirituality and smart interior design. Many clients come to me wanting a traditional look but are worried about dust or limited space. I find that using fluted panels or glass slide and fold doors can create that sense of grandeur without overcrowding your living room. Whether you have a dedicated room or just a small wall niche, we can make it work. For my Dehradun projects, I often incorporate brass bells and subtle Aipan art motifs, which add a local, rooted feel to the space. Lighting also changes everything. I focus on warm, recessed lighting to highlight the idols and create a calm atmosphere during your daily prayers. Do not worry if you have a tricky corner, as I have turned many awkward columns into beautiful, functional prayer nooks. We will sit down and plan the layout, materials, and storage, ensuring the final design reflects your family beliefs and style perfectly. ## About Jyoti Dabral I am Jyoti, and for me, a mandir is the most important corner of any home.
