My advice is to keep the heavy-duty furniture—like wardrobes and study desks—neutral and timeless. We then layer in personality through wallpaper, paint, and accessories. This way, you aren't gutting the room when your child outgrows their 'little kid' phase; you simply update the accents to match their evolving taste. Designing spaces for kids and teens is a balancing act between imagination and practicality. The biggest mistake I see is prioritizing a specific theme that becomes irrelevant in two years. I prefer a different approach. We focus on building a strong, neutral structure with high-quality, durable laminates that can handle wear and tear—whether that's art projects or study marathons. **Key areas I prioritize:** * **The Study Zone:** Natural light is non-negotiable. I position desks near windows and integrate storage right into the study unit, using open shelving for books and closed cabinets for school supplies. * **Storage Optimization:** Kids collect things. I build floor-to-ceiling wardrobes and custom nooks that maximize vertical space, keeping the floor clear for play or relaxing. * **Material Choice:** Since kids' rooms get messy, I use suede-finish laminates and durable quartz countertops. They look premium but wipe clean easily, which helps keep the room looking fresh with minimal effort. Whether we are converting a balcony into a dedicated study nook or doing a full 3 BHK renovation, the goal is always to create a room that respects the child's autonomy while giving parents the storage they need to keep the chaos contained.
