I use this daily, whether I am working with a hyperactive Indie like Papper or helping a reactive dog learn to de-escalate. When your dog knows their place, you get a calm home, and they get to feel secure. It is all about building that 'Shabash!' moment when they choose to settle on their own. Think of the 'Place' command as your dog's personal sanctuary. Many pet parents come to me dealing with chaos: dogs rushing the door, jumping on guests, or simply pacing because they do not know how to switch off. Using the 'Place' command, we teach your dog to go to a specific mat or bed and stay there, regardless of the distractions around them. ### Why This Works It creates a clear boundary. When I work with dogs like Papper, who was 'super hyper', we do not use harshness to force them down. Instead, we use positive reinforcement to make that mat the most rewarding place to be. We build impulse control, so they wait for your 'Okay' signal before moving. This turns an anxious dog into a calm, thinking dog. ### Practical Application - **For Reactivity:** If your dog struggles with aggression, sending them to 'Place' is a non-confrontational way to reset their brain during a trigger event. - **For Puppies:** Starting this early, like with the Golden Retriever puppy in my videos, prevents behavioral issues before they begin. - **For Guests:** No more jumping on visitors. Your dog learns that the door opening is their cue to head to their mat, not to the chaos. This is a core skill in my Standard Obedience program. We spend 12 sessions practicing this in your home, ensuring your dog listens even with household distractions. If you are ready to stop the madness and get a calm dog, let's start with a diagnostic session. ## About The Gaurav Dog Trainer I am Gaurav, and my life revolves around helping dogs and their families find balance.
