It is about anticipation. I know how to move within a crowded Shobha Yatra to find those split-second interactions, like a drummer mid-swing or a quiet moment of devotion near the float, without getting in the way of the energy. ### Capturing the Chaos Street festivals in Mumbai and Thane are intense. You have massive crowds, loud dhol-tasha beats, and shifting light conditions. Most photographers struggle with this environment because they try to control it. My approach is different. I treat the Shobha Yatra as a living, breathing subject. I use Sony full-frame mirrorless gear with fast prime lenses. This setup allows me to shoot in low light without relying on intrusive flash that kills the natural atmosphere. Whether it is the intense focus of a drummer or the vibrant colors of a traditional procession, I look for the story in the movement. ### Why My Coverage Works * **Anticipation over Posing:** I look for peak action. I wait for the drummer to hit the beat or the crowd to cheer for the float. This creates images that feel alive rather than staged. * **Cultural Context:** I understand the significance of these rituals. Knowing when the dhol pathak is about to escalate or when a key moment in the procession happens allows me to be in the right spot before it happens. * **Versatility:** From capturing the massive scale of a street rally with wide-angle shots to tight, intimate portraits of performers, I vary my technique to show the full scope of the celebration. ### Technical Approach I prefer a candid style. This means I am constantly moving, finding different angles, and blending into the background. I use gimbals for steady video clips to add another layer to your event coverage.
