Because the cards use ten-frames and color-coding, you aren't just looking at the symbol '8'—you are physically manipulating an eight-value quantity. It moves the brain from rote counting to 'math agility' by making abstract operations like multiplication and negative integers tangible enough to touch. I designed Yonjuu because I saw too many students freeze up when faced with a page of numbers. By turning foundational concepts into a strategy game, we remove the math anxiety that builds when learning is purely abstract. In our classes and workshops, we use these cards across different levels: - Beginners use the cards to identify patterns, such as finding pairs that add to 10. This builds immediate number sense and mental math fluency. - Advanced learners introduce trump cards, which instantly change the game's logic. This is where we introduce negative numbers and integers, allowing students to 'see' how subtraction works visually rather than memorizing a rule. Whether you are a parent working with a child struggling to memorize multiplication tables, or an educator wanting to liven up a math club, this tool bridges the gap between concrete objects and abstract symbols.
