We layer velvet drapes against rich, deep crimson roses and warm, amber lighting to avoid a flat look. This creates that heavy, lush feeling you see in the photos, ensuring the space feels like an experience rather than just a room that happens to be red. True red-on-red design is an exercise in restraint and excess simultaneously. Many assume that using only one color creates a monochromatic blur, but when done right, it creates a sanctuary. I focus on how light hits the different textures—how the velvet absorbs light while the crystal accents reflect it back—to add dimension to the room. ### The Anatomy of a Red Theme * **Layering Textures:** We never use just one material. A red-on-red space is built by mixing fabrics. Think deep red velvet sofas paired with silk wall cladding, accented by the natural, matte finish of fresh red roses. * **Lighting as Paint:** Red can easily look dark and gloomy if the lighting is wrong. I use warm, amber-toned focused spots on the floral arrangements and pathways to make the color 'pop' without turning the space into a cave. * **The Entrance Strategy:** For these events, the transition is everything. Whether it is a floral tunnel or a draped walkway, the goal is to envelop your guests in color the moment they cross the threshold. It signals that this is not a standard party; it is a shift into a more intimate, passionate atmosphere. Whether we are transforming a hotel lobby at the St. Regis or setting up an outdoor Sangeet, the approach remains the same. We use the color to build a rhythm, leading the eye from the entrance to the stage, ensuring the design tells a cohesive story from start to finish. ## About Gurleen M Puri I’m Gurleen.
