# Varamahalakshmi pooja at home in Bengaluru

It all lands on one Friday. So we asked nine people in Bengaluru who do this work about the pooja, from dressing the kalasha to thamboola for the guests, and read the 52 requests families sent us. Here's what it costs, who can help and what to settle before 13 August 2027.

Friday 13 August 2027 · 9 providers on mytribe · Updated 10 Oct 2026

Prices are what each provider told us or a shop or caterer published, and flower and fruit prices are from news reports of KR Market in festival week, August 2026. Where we added prices up, the page says it's our sum, so check every price when you buy or book.

## Q1. What does a Varamahalakshmi pooja at home cost in Bengaluru?

**If you dress the kalasha yourself, your first Varamahalakshmi costs about ₹3,000 to ₹4,400: a brass pot, a simple face and saree, flowers and fruit. The big money is what you add: a decorator's backdrop, about ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 for one 6 to 8 feet each way, and a haldi-kumkum lunch at ₹300 to ₹600 a plate.** After the first year, the pooja itself is about ₹800 to ₹1,700 in flowers and fruit.

- **Yourself, the first year: a brass pot, a simple face and saree, flowers and fruit:** About ₹3,000 to ₹4,400. Our sum: a brass kalash from ₹1,380, a zinc face ₹225, a satin saree and blouse piece, and festival-week flowers and fruit. Coconuts, betel, rice and oil on top. ![An illustration of a small brass kalasha on a low wooden plank in a flat, topped with mango leaves and a coconut, with a metal Lakshmi face, a red satin saree and one garland of red roses and yellow chrysanthemum, banana stems either side, lotus flowers and fruit on plates, a brass lamp and a rangoli](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/d9bceb59-2052-496c-8daa-3be4b831ba39) Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of any home or provider.
- **Yourself, with a brass face and jewellery you keep for years:** About ₹7,400 to ₹8,800 the first year. Our sum: the simple kalasha above with a brass face (₹1,500), a stone-set necklace and a crown. Next year, only the flowers and fruit again. ![An illustration of a brass kalasha on a low wooden plank with a brass Lakshmi face, a stone-set crown and necklace, a pleated red satin saree and a garland of red roses and yellow chrysanthemum, banana stems either side, a plate of fruit and a brass lamp](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/f0e2e1e5-0754-4cd5-b1c8-0141cfbee559) Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of any home or provider.
- **With a decorator's backdrop behind the Goddess:** About ₹13,000 to ₹29,000. Our sum: the simple kalasha, plus about ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 for a backdrop 6 to 8 feet each way, what decorators here charge for a pooja backdrop (question 5). Dressing the Goddess is usually extra. ![A Goddess at home dressed in a dark saree with gold jewellery and marigold and jasmine garlands, in a ring of white flowers, in front of magenta and white drapes under a border of pink and white flowers, with banana leaves and a table of fruit, coconuts, sweets and bangles](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/52fae07a-ae61-4e15-b434-5db32ab56977) Picture: Dream Party Link.
- **A backdrop, plus lunch and thamboola for 50 ladies:** About ₹32,000 to ₹64,000. Our sum: the backdrop line above, plus a caterer's lunch at ₹300 to ₹600 a plate and thamboola. The lunch is most of it (question 6). Before GST, transport, a priest or a draper. ![An illustration of women in silk sarees eating lunch on banana leaves on the floor of a flat, a caterer's server with a steel bucket, a kalasha in front of a magenta and white drape behind them, and stacks of thamboola packs with bangles on a table by the door](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/6c18ee06-fe3b-440f-9606-4fc11c7622de) Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of any home or provider.

The pot, the face, the saree and the flowers are a few thousand rupees, and the brass pieces last for years. A decorator's backdrop or a caterer's lunch for 50 each costs more than all of that. You need neither, and no priest or draper either. Pick the one or two that matter to your family.

| Who you might pay | What it costs | Who says |
|---|---|---|
| A decorator's backdrop | About ₹10,000 to ₹25,000. For a backdrop 6 to 8 feet each way | What Bengaluru's decorators charge for a pooja backdrop. Garlands alone cost less (question 5) |
| Someone to dress the Goddess | No published price. Paid every year | None we found in Bengaluru. Ask what she brings (question 3) |
| A priest | No published price. His dakshina is agreed with him | None found for this pooja. You can do it without one (question 2) |
| A caterer's lunch | ₹300 to ₹600 a plate | HiiBangalore, KVG and Bhandary's Kitchen. From 30 or 50 plates (question 6) |
| Thamboola for each guest | About ₹77 to ₹87. Or ₹280 for a ready hamper, for 15 or more | A blouse piece and kumkum, our sum. Smart Gifter's hamper has bangles too |

Each provider's or shop's own price. The backdrop range is from our pooja decoration guide, and the thamboola sum is ours, from Giri's listed prices.

**Doing the decoration yourself costs the least.** Hang a silk saree of your own behind the kalasha as the drape and string flowers across it. Two kilos of chrysanthemum came to ₹900 to ₹1,600 at KR Market in festival week in August 2026, by our sum. A fuller drape takes more.

Flower and fruit prices here are from August 2026. They move every year with the rain and the crop, so read them as a guide (question 7).

## Q2. Do I need a priest for Varamahalakshmi pooja, or can I do it myself?

**No. Varamahalakshmi is the woman's own vratha: she sets up the kalasha, does the pooja and reads the vratha katha herself.** If it's your first year and nobody at home can walk you through it, a priest makes it easier. No priest or temple we could check publishes a fee for this pooja, so agree his dakshina before the day.

- **Before the pooja:** Bathe and draw a rangoli. Fill the kalasha with rice, top it with mango leaves and a coconut, fix the face, and dress it in the saree, jewellery, flowers and fruit.
- **Ganesha first:** A short pooja to Ganesha before anything else.
- **The Varalakshmi pooja:** The pooja to the Goddess, and the vratha katha, read by the woman keeping the vratha.
- **The thread:** A sacred thread is tied on her right wrist.
- **Naivedya:** Obbattu, payasa and kosambari are offered.
- **The evening:** Married women visit each other's homes for haldi-kumkum, sweets and thamboola.

**You can follow it from a book.** The vratha katha is sold as a small book wherever pooja things are sold, in Kannada, Telugu and Tamil. This order of the day is karnataka.com's, and Karnataka Tourism describes the festival as kept by women, with the family joining in. Neither mentions a priest.

**If you want a priest,** ask at your nearest temple first. Book him as soon as your date is fixed, because every family wants one on the same morning. On one such day in January 2024, Deccan Herald found Bengaluru's freelance priests turning requests down. Ask what he brings, what you buy, and the dakshina, before the day. If your family is Telugu and he's Kannadiga, ask which katha he reads.

Our [housewarming guide](https://mytribe.in/guides/housewarming-gruhapravesha-in-bengaluru#gruhapravesha-priest-charges-in-bengaluru) explains a priest's words, like dakshina and samagri, and what to ask about each.

No source we found says how long the pooja takes. Each of the good times that day is about two hours long (question 7).

## Q3. How do I get the Varamahalakshmi idol or kalasha dressed, and what does it cost?

**It depends on what you want to see. For a full figure with hands and a crown, buy a ready-dressed Lakshmi idol: ₹2,000 to ₹8,000 in Jayanagar, Basavanagudi or Malleshwaram shops. For the kalasha look with no skill needed, a pre-stitched saree slips over the pot for about ₹1,060. To have it done your family's way, call a draper.** The idol and the saree are bought once; you still need the pot and face for the saree (question 4). A draper is paid every year, and we found no published price for one in Bengaluru.

| Way | What it costs | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| A pre-stitched saree. Made to slip over a kalasha, no draping | About ₹1,060, once. A Mysuru shop's online price, ₹1,650 before its discount | The kalasha look, with no skill and no one to book |
| A ready-dressed Lakshmi idol. Saree, jewellery and crown on, ready to place | ₹2,000 to ₹8,000, once. By size and decoration, in city shops | A full figure with hands, every year, with nothing to do |
| A draper at your home. She dresses your kalasha or idol in your saree and jewellery | No published price. Paid every year | Your family's own way, or a mother who can't do it herself any more |
| Learning it yourself. From a relative, or a workshop | Ask the fee. Asha Nagaraj, on mytribe, teaches idol draping | Doing it yourself from next year |

Shop prices as published, read on 9 October 2026. City shop prices are from Hans India, 20 August 2026.

**A draper builds the figure, then dresses it.** She shapes a body on the kalasha, pleats the saree to its size, pins it, and puts on the jewellery and garlands. When you ask her, find out if she brings the stand or body, the pins and the padding, and whose jewellery and saree go on. On the festival morning she's wanted in many homes, so fix the time she'll reach you, well before your good time.

**A face on the pot, or a body with hands.** A face sits on the kalasha by itself, but for a seated figure with hands you need a body or a stand. Online, full sets with a body, face, jewellery, saree and crown start at about ₹1,350 for a 12-inch set at Golden Collections, an online seller in Secunderabad, and run to ₹22,500 and more. Order well before the festival.

**Or learn it once.** In 2025 Asha Nagaraj, on mytribe, advertised a workshop on dressing the Goddess for 30 June, well before the festival. Ask her the fee and the next date. She wrote this in Kannada on Instagram that June:

> "ವರಮಹಾಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ದೇವಿಯ ಸೀರೆ ಅಲಂಕರಿಸುವ ಕಲೆಯನ್ನು ಈ ಹಬ್ಬದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರದ್ಧೆಯಿಂದ ಕಲಿಯಿರಿ."
>
> [Asha Nagaraj](https://mytribe.in/sareedrapist_ashanagraj), in a reel's caption on Instagram, June 2025.

In English: learn the art of dressing the Varamahalakshmi Goddess in a saree, with devotion, this festival.

## Q4. What do I need to buy for the Varamahalakshmi kalasha?

**For the kalasha: a pot, rice to fill it, mango leaves and a coconut for the top, a face, a saree with a blouse piece, some jewellery, kumkum and turmeric, a sacred thread and a lamp. Then fresh flowers and fruit on the day. A brass face is about ₹1,500 and silver starts around ₹13,600; both are normal.**

**What goes on the kalasha, and what each piece costs**

![An illustration of a flat-lay on a cotton mat: a brass pot, a brass Lakshmi face, a stone-set crown, a red saree with a blouse piece, a stone-set necklace, a coconut with mango leaves, a bowl of rice, a plate of turmeric and kumkum, a coil of thread and a brass lamp](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/dc315d08-8b1d-49cd-8fb0-b5a9990a3e22)

1. **The pot:** ₹1,380 to ₹1,900. A brass kalash, 6.5 to 8 inches, at Giri. Copper or silver works too. Pick id: `piece:pot`.
2. **The face:** ₹225 zinc, ₹1,500 brass. Giri's 7-inch zinc face and The Pooja Store's 7.5-inch brass one. Silver starts at ₹13,626 at a Coimbatore jeweller. Pick id: `piece:face`.
3. **The crown:** ₹1,375. Stone-set, at Giri. Pick id: `piece:crown`.
4. **The necklace:** ₹1,660. Stone-set, at Giri. Pick id: `piece:necklace`.
5. **The saree and blouse piece:** ₹540 to ₹550. A 6 m satin saree for ₹465 and a blouse piece for ₹75 to ₹85, at Giri. A pre-stitched kalash saree is about ₹1,060. Pick id: `piece:saree-and-blouse-piece`.
6. **Kumkum and turmeric:** ₹50 for 30 packets. At Giri. The same packets go in the thamboola (question 6). Pick id: `piece:kumkum-and-turmeric`.

Each price is that shop's own listing, not a quote for this set. We found no 2026 Bengaluru price for the coconut, mango leaves, rice or thread. Photo: Illustration, not a photograph of any shop's goods.

- [Video: A kalasha dressed for a pooja, on a low stool: a purple saree and a yellow shawl, strings of necklaces, mango leaves and a coconut, with no face fixed. Behind it, a white curtain with marigold strings, red blossoms and fairy lights. The kalasha shows from about 28 seconds in. It doesn't say which pooja. From Sankalana Decorations' own reel, December 2025.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/3d57eb46-191c-4ddb-b34a-b672a08a3777) Video: Sankalana Decorations.

**Brass or silver.** Both are used: karnataka.com describes a silver or brass face fixed to the kalasha. Silver is sold by weight, so its price follows the silver rate. The smallest plain silver face we found weighs 47.4 g and costs ₹13,626, at a Coimbatore jeweller; no Bengaluru jeweller lists one. Brass costs about a ninth as much, lasts for years, and the family sees the face dressed in a saree and garlands either way.

**A boxed kit, or the pieces one by one.** Zishta's Varalakshmi set, at ₹5,585, has a brass kalash, a Lakshmi face, a brass bowl, a wooden stand and a saree with a blouse piece, and takes 5 to 7 days to arrive. The pot, a brass face, the saree and a blouse piece bought one by one come to about ₹3,400 to ₹4,000. So the kit's extra ₹1,600 to ₹2,200 pays for the stand, the bowl and buying it all in one order. The listing also promises some pooja essentials without naming them, and names no flowers, fruit or coconuts.

**Buy early, except the flowers.** On 21 August 2026, KR Market, Town Hall and Mysore Bank Circle jammed so badly that police cleared roadside vendors, ETV Bharat reported. Buy the pot, face, saree, rice and coconut the week before.

## Q5. Why do Varamahalakshmi decoration prices vary so much?

**Mostly how much gets built, and whether the flowers are real. Across Bengaluru, a backdrop about 6 to 8 feet each way behind the Goddess costs about ₹10,000 to ₹25,000, and a whole wall of flowers or a mandap built round her about ₹20,000 to ₹50,000. Real flowers cost more: the festival backdrop Dream Party Link priced for Ganapati starts at ₹10,000 in artificial flowers and ₹20,000 in real ones.** Then come the extras: dressing the Goddess, lamps and transport.

- **One arch of flowers:** Baby's breath and white roses on a plain green wall. ![A Ganesha idol on a small wooden stool, framed by one arch of baby's breath and white roses against a green grass wall, with a white cloth, fruit and a coconut in front](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/6afdd9f0-199e-40a3-b8b0-335fc0967cc2)
- **A whole setting:** A rose arch, a wall of leaves, silver elephants and four tall lamps. ![A seated Lakshmi inside a pointed arch of magenta roses, in front of a wall of large green leaves, between two silver elephants and four tall silver lamps, on a purple patterned floor cloth with silver bowls of offerings](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/7f103b65-4894-43cc-861f-5b5a6731dee0)
Two setups from Dream Decor's own gallery, the lighter one round a Ganesha. Neither is one of her priced packages, so neither has a price. Photos: Dream Decor.

**The extra money buys more to look at.** At the lighter end there's one thing: an arch of flowers on a plain wall, and the idol in front. At the fuller end the decorator builds a whole setting: a wall of leaves behind, an arch in front, silver elephants and lamps on either side, a cloth on the floor. That's more pieces to bring, set up and take back. Across the city, a backdrop about 6 to 8 feet each way, a cloth drape or banana leaves hung with flower strings, costs about ₹10,000 to ₹25,000, and a wall covered in flowers or a mandap built round the Goddess about ₹20,000 to ₹50,000, as our pooja decoration guide found. Dream Decor priced the same kind of setup for Ganesha in September 2025: one rose canopy with bells at ₹14,999, and a mandir arch with panels, roses on every edge and a chandelier at ₹24,999.

- [Video: Dream Decor's crew building a wall of flowers with a namam on it, then the finished room, for a Satyanarayana pooja at a housewarming. A wall like this is the ₹20,000 to ₹50,000 kind of job across the city, bigger than either Dream Decor package above, and no price goes with this one. From Dream Decor's own reel, July 2025.](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/raw:1/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/a29de36d-b866-4f0b-8832-7440b56cacfa) Video: Dream Decor.

**Real flowers cost more.** Dream Party Link's backdrop starts at ₹10,000 in artificial flowers and ₹20,000 in real ones, prices he gave for Ganapati and festival backdrops. Real flowers smell and look fresh, and they're bought for your day at that week's price.

**Under ₹10,000 you get garlands more than a built backdrop.** Sankalana Decorations told us simple marigold garland work at home sits under ₹10,000, and a floral backdrop above it. Zunaira Events' artificial floral decor starts at ₹5,000. Of the 22 people who asked us for Varamahalakshmi decoration in 2026 and typed a budget of their own, 17 planned ₹10,000 or less.

**The extras.** The decorator brings the backdrop and the flowers. Ask who brings the face, saree and jewellery for the Goddess, and who dresses her: Dream Party Link charges for dressing her on top of the backdrop. He also charges ₹600 to ₹700 or more for each brass lamp or brass pot. Dream Decor adds ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 for transport in the city.

More styles, and what each costs, are in our [pooja decoration guide](https://mytribe.in/guides/pooja-and-ceremony-decorators-in-bengaluru).

**Behind this answer:** [Dream Party Link](https://mytribe.in/dream_party_link) a festival backdrop from ₹10,000 in artificial flowers or ₹20,000 in real ones, given for Ganapati, dressing the idol extra; [Dream Decor](https://mytribe.in/dream_decor_bengaluru) a Ganesha menu from ₹14,999 to ₹24,999 (September 2025), transport extra; [Zunaira Events](https://mytribe.in/sevendreamspartylinks) artificial floral decor from ₹5,000; [Sankalana Decorations](https://mytribe.in/sankalanadecorations) marigold garland work under ₹10,000, a floral backdrop above it.

## Q6. What do thamboola and lunch cost for Varamahalakshmi haldi-kumkum guests?

**Your guests expect thamboola, but lunch is your choice, and for 50 it's the biggest bill of the day. A blouse piece and kumkum for each guest cost about ₹77 to ₹87. A caterer's lunch is ₹300 to ₹600 a plate, so ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 for 50.** Keep a few extra thamboola packs for the neighbour who comes unasked.

A cook in your kitchen costs a day's wages, and you plan the menu and buy the groceries. A caterer brings the food, serves it and clears up.

| Three ways to host | For 50 guests |
|---|---|
| Thamboola, no lunch. A blouse piece and kumkum for each guest, ₹77 to ₹87, packed at home | About ₹3,900 to ₹4,400. Bangles, betel, fruit and sweets on top. A ready hamper with bangles is ₹14,000, plus delivery |
| Thamboola, and a cook in your kitchen. A cook and a helper for the day, about ₹2,000 for the two at the state's minimum wage | About ₹5,900 to ₹6,400. Before the groceries for 50, which we have no price for |
| Thamboola, and a caterer's lunch. Lunch at ₹300 to ₹600 a plate | About ₹18,900 to ₹34,400. Bhandary's Kitchen adds 5% GST and transport |

Our sums for 50 guests. The thamboola is from the online prices of Giri, a pooja shop, for pieces in stock. The cook and helper are at Karnataka's basic minimum wage for a day from 22 May 2026, before dearness allowance. In August the state told its own departments to hold off applying it; on 18 September the High Court stayed that instruction, and the case is still going, so ask their rate. The lunch is HiiBangalore's and KVG's published prices and what Bhandary's Kitchen told us.

**Caterers start at 30 or 50 plates.** HiiBangalore's and KVG's published packages run ₹300 to ₹420 a plate at 30 to 50 plates. Bhandary's Kitchen's muhurtham lunch is ₹400 to ₹600 a plate for 50 or more, plus 5% GST and transport, and its ₹600 menu has a payasam and a choice of holige or chiroti. For 20 guests, no caterer we found publishes a price. HiiBangalore's Regular package includes serving staff, banana-leaf service and the clearing up; tables, chairs and a tent are extra.

**The blouse piece is most of a thamboola.** It's ₹75 to ₹85 at Giri, and a kumkum and turmeric packet under ₹2. Bangles, betel leaves and a banana or two usually go in too. Smart Gifter's ready hamper, with a thali holder, a blouse piece, kumkum and bangles in a wrap, is ₹280 each for 15 or more, plus delivery: ₹14,000 for 50.

**No plastic plates.** Plastic plates and cups have been on India's single-use plastic ban list since July 2022, so serve on banana leaves or steel.

**Behind this answer:** [Bhandary's Kitchen](https://mytribe.in/bhandaryskitchen) muhurtham lunch ₹400 to ₹600 a plate from 50, plus 5% GST and transport; [Smart Gifter](https://mytribe.in/smart_gifter) thamboola hampers ₹280 each for 15 or more, plus delivery; [Decor Your Dreams](https://mytribe.in/decor_your_dreams_) one decorated thamboolam or aarthi plate ₹1,200 to ₹1,500, contents in.

## Q7. When is Varamahalakshmi in 2027, and what time should I do the pooja?

**Friday 13 August 2027. Drik Panchang's good times in Bengaluru that day are 6:27 to 8:30 in the morning, 12:38 to 2:50 in the afternoon and 6:51 to 8:32 in the evening, and it calls the evening the best. So on a working Friday, an evening pooja is fine.** Both calendars we checked give the 13th. Still, check with your nearest temple: in 2026, Drik Panchang said 28 August while Bengaluru kept the 21st.

| Good time | Bengaluru, Friday 13 August 2027 |
|---|---|
| Morning (Simha lagna) | 6:27 am to 8:30 am |
| Afternoon (Vrishchika lagna) | 12:38 pm to 2:50 pm |
| Evening (Kumbha lagna) | 6:51 pm to 8:32 pm. Drik Panchang calls the evening the best |
| Midnight (Vrishabha lagna) | 12:00 am to 2:03 am, early on Saturday 14 August |

Drik Panchang for Bengaluru, read on 9 October 2026. DekhoPanchang gives the same date.

**Book once your date is fixed, and earlier for a dawn slot.** The decorators here need a day or two to a week's notice, and Dream Decor holds a date only once the advance is paid. But every home wants the same Friday, and each decorator or draper can only be in one home at a time. If you want a particular person at dawn, book them first.

**Set up the night before, and put fresh garlands on at dawn.** On a working Friday this is how it fits. About one in four of the 52 requests we had for Varamahalakshmi in 2026 asked for the setup the evening before or before dawn, and Zunaira Events does late-night and early-morning setups for good times.

**Flowers cost two to three times as much that week.** At KR Market on 20 August 2026, chrysanthemum was ₹450 a kilo against ₹150 a week earlier, and jasmine ₹1,200 against ₹500. Flowers won't keep for a week. So make the backdrop artificial and keep fresh flowers for the Goddess, or have your decorator fix the flower price in the quote: Dream Decor builds the festival rise into hers when she gives it. Apples, pomegranates, coconuts and the dry things can be bought a week early.

In 2026 the festival was a restricted holiday in Karnataka, so for many it was a working day.

## Q8. How much advance do Varamahalakshmi decorators take, and what if they cancel or I change the date?

**Most of the six decorators here take 30% to 50% upfront, and if you cancel once the flowers are bought, most or all of it stays with them. At four of the six, moving the date costs much less than cancelling: nothing at Dream Party Link, a flat ₹2,000 at Dream Decor.** Agree the look as a photo and a written list of items. It's what you hold them to if something's missing, and Dream Party Link treats his list as the deal, with no redo if the look differs from a picture.

| Decorator | Advance | If you cancel | If you move the date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dream Party Link | 50%. Sometimes less | Refunded if he hasn't bought materials. Not for flowers already bought | Free |
| Dream Decor | 50%. Your date is held once it's paid | Not refunded | ₹2,000 |
| Mahinava Events | 30% | Not refunded | Advance carries over if she's free. If she isn't, half of it back |
| Zunaira Events | 50%. The rest when the work is done | He keeps what he has spent. Case by case | Free if he's free. If he isn't, it can't move |
| Sankalana Decorations | About 10%. The rest after the work | Advance covers printing for you. If that costs more, you pay the rest | Case by case |
| Decor Your Dreams | 40% to 50% | Ask | Ask |

Each decorator's own terms, given to us. Printing means a backdrop or a banner printed for your pooja.

**Taking it down.** It's in Mahinava Events' price. Dream Decor takes back everything she brought, because it's rented. Zunaira Events collects his frames, stands, lights and props the next day, and on a banana-leaf or marigold job he clears the fresh waste too. Ask Dream Party Link, Sankalana Decorations and Decor Your Dreams when they'll come.

**If the date might move, pick for that.** If your periods could fall on the day and your family would move the pooja to another Friday, a decorator who moves the date for free matters more than one with a smaller advance.

**If they cancel on you.** We hold no written rule from any of the six for a decorator cancelling on you, so ask for the advance back in full, in writing, before you pay. Pay by UPI and keep the WhatsApp thread, so there's a record of what you paid and what was promised. If you book through us, the booking comes with an agreement on what's included and what it costs, and if something isn't going to plan, a person here sorts it out.

## Before the festival, settle these seven

1. The date, checked with your nearest temple, and your good time that day
2. Who dresses the Goddess, and whose saree and jewellery go on
3. The decorator's look, as a photo and a written list of items
4. The setup time, and a ready-by time before your good time
5. The advance, and what moving the date costs
6. How many thamboola packs, with a few extra
7. A proper holder for the lamp, clear of the saree and the drapes

## What Bengaluru families asked us for

Requests to mytribe for Varamahalakshmi in 2026, in our words.

- **A family in Mathikere, Aug 2026:** A backdrop for Varamahalakshmi on the 21st, **ready by 4 in the morning**, with the saree draping on the kalasha too. Below ₹8,000, then a budget of ₹10,000. (Ready by 4 am, With draping, Budget ₹10,000)

- **A family in Electronic City, Aug 2026:** **Saree draping for one kalash, done at our home** at 6 pm on 20 August, the Devi seated in padmasana. Within ₹1,000. (Draping only, Evening, Budget ₹1,000)

- **A family in Avalahalli, Jul 2026:** **Photos of your Varamahalakshmi work, with prices**. The ones we asked wanted above ₹20,000, which is out of our budget. Below ₹15,000. (Decoration, Small family pooja, Under ₹15,000)

- **A family in Rajajinagar, Aug 2026:** A grand Varamahalakshmi setup at home in fresh flowers, **only the pooja corner**, indoors. The budget is no issue. (Fresh flowers, Pooja corner, Grand)

## Want us to find one?

**Varamahalakshmi is one Friday for every home in the city.** The decorators and the people who dress the Goddess are all wanted on the same morning, and each can only be in one home at a time.

**Tell us once instead.** We come back with the decorators and drapers who fit, each priced for your pooja, with their own past work. We already know them: we've checked their real work and their prices, and called their past clients, including about what went wrong. Only about 1 in 10 who apply get in, and every one is re-checked at least every six months. [How we verify](https://mytribe.in/how-we-verify)

Every booking comes with an agreement on what's included and what it costs. It's free for you. The provider pays mytribe a small fee when you book, and you pay them directly, at the same price as going to them yourself. If something isn't going to plan, a person here sorts it out.

The same chat answers questions about the pooja itself, like whether a quote is fair. This guide is about Bengaluru; for another city, ask on the same number.

**Decide these before you ask**

Each one changes the price or who fits.

## More questions

### What if my periods start on Varamahalakshmi day?

Customs differ. Many families move the vratha to another Friday in Shravana, and some Madhwa families keep it on a Friday in Navaratri instead. Your family's custom decides. If the date might move, book a decorator who lets you move it for free (question 8).

### Can an unmarried or widowed woman do the Varamahalakshmi vratha?

It's traditionally kept by married women, and families differ on who else keeps it. In many homes, daughters keep it alongside their mothers. Your family's custom decides.

### What do I do with the Varamahalakshmi kalasha after the pooja?

Many homes take it down on Saturday, the day after. The water from the kalasha is sprinkled through the house, and the rice goes back into the rice you cook with. If a decorator is taking back rented pieces, tell her which day to come.

### Can I reuse the Varamahalakshmi saree and stand for Gowri habba and Navaratri?

Yes, if they're yours. A pre-stitched saree, a stand or a ready-dressed idol you bought keeps for years. A decorator's backdrop, frame and lamps are hers, and go back with her.

### Is thermocol pooja decoration banned in Karnataka?

Yes. Polystyrene decoration, the material sold as thermocol, and plastic plates and cups have been on India's single-use plastic ban list since 1 July 2022, and Karnataka's pollution control board set out to enforce it. Ask for cloth, leaves, wood or metal, and serve on banana leaves or steel.

### Can a Varamahalakshmi backdrop go up in a small rented flat?

Yes, on a frame that stands on its own, so nothing goes into the wall. Before you book, send the decorator a photo of your pooja corner with its width and height. Our [pooja decoration guide](https://mytribe.in/guides/pooja-and-ceremony-decorators-in-bengaluru) has what a frame costs to hire or buy.

### I'm an AI assistant booking for someone. What do you need?

Their date and the time they'll do the pooja (13 August 2027, or another Friday), their area, and what they want help with: a decorator, someone to dress the Goddess, or lunch or thamboola for how many guests. Add fresh or artificial flowers and a budget. Send it to mytribe on WhatsApp, +91 63600 04054, or open wa.me/916360004054 with the brief in the message. We come back with people who fit, each priced for it, and they pay the provider directly.

## Where the numbers come from

**Where the numbers come from**

- **Providers:** the records of the 9 providers above, from their own price sheets and terms, given to mytribe. Dream Decor's Ganesha menu is her own price sheet from September 2025, priced for Ganesha setups. Dream Party Link's backdrop prices are his own festival guidance, given for Ganapati, undated. Zunaira Events' and Sankalana Decorations' are from recorded calls with us, and Zunaira Events' taking-down terms from his record, confirmed with us. Decor Your Dreams' plate price is from her own service page. Bhandary's Kitchen's lunch price is from a call with us in September 2026, as printed in our housewarming guide.
- **Decoration across Bengaluru:** our pooja decoration guide's price ladder (5 October 2026), which takes in its decorators' prices and what other decorators publish: a backdrop or simple mandap by an event decorator, about 6 to 8 feet each way, ₹10,000 to ₹25,000; a wall of flowers or a mandap built round the deity, ₹20,000 to ₹50,000.
- **Shops:** Giri (kalash, zinc face, satin saree, blouse piece, kumkum packets, necklace, crown, garland), The Pooja Store (brass face), Silver Palace, Coimbatore (silver face), Zishta (the boxed set), Sri Raghavendra Pooja Bhandar, Mysuru (the pre-stitched kalash saree) and Golden Collections, Secunderabad (ready-dressed sets, read on 10 October 2026), each from its own website, read on 9 October 2026 unless said (Giri's lists date from 2025 and 2026). Giri's ₹120 blouse pieces were sold out, so the page uses the ₹75 and ₹85 ones in stock. City shops' ready-dressed idols: Hans India, 20 August 2026.
- **Caterers:** HiiBangalore's and KVG's published packages, read on 9 October 2026.
- **Flowers and fruit:** KR Market prices from Hans India, ETV Bharat and Asianet Newsable, 20 and 21 August 2026. Where a report doesn't say whether a price is retail or wholesale, we used it as printed.
- **Our own sums,** worked out on 9 October 2026 from the prices above. The first year yourself: a brass kalash ₹1,380 to ₹1,900, a zinc face ₹225, a satin saree ₹465, a blouse piece ₹75 to ₹85, kumkum packets ₹50, a pair of banana stems ₹100, a pair of lotus ₹60 to ₹100, half a kilo to a kilo of roses or chrysanthemum at ₹400 to ₹800 a kilo, and about 3 kg of bananas, apples and pomegranate, ₹400 to ₹650. That comes to ₹2,955 to ₹4,375. Every year after, the kumkum, stems, lotus, flowers and fruit: ₹810 to ₹1,700. With a brass face, a necklace ₹1,660, a crown ₹1,375 and a garland ₹150 in place of the zinc face: ₹7,415 to ₹8,835. With a backdrop: the first year yourself plus ₹10,000 to ₹25,000, ₹12,955 to ₹29,375. With lunch and thamboola for 50: that plus 50 plates at ₹300 to ₹600 and 50 thamboola at ₹77 to ₹87 (a blouse piece and a kumkum packet at about ₹1.70), ₹31,805 to ₹63,725. The pot, a brass face, a saree and a blouse piece bought one by one: ₹3,420 to ₹3,950, so the kit costs ₹1,635 to ₹2,165 more. Brass against silver: ₹1,500 against ₹13,626, about a ninth. Smart Gifter's hampers for 50: 50 at ₹280, ₹14,000. The three ways to host 50 guests in question 6, each rounded to ₹100: thamboola, 50 at ₹77 to ₹87, ₹3,900 to ₹4,400; with a cook and a helper at about ₹2,000 for the day, ₹5,900 to ₹6,400; with a caterer's lunch, 50 plates at ₹300 to ₹600, ₹18,900 to ₹34,400. Doing the decoration yourself: 2 kg of chrysanthemum at ₹450 to ₹800 a kilo, a quantity we chose. The good times are about two hours each: Drik Panchang gives 1 hour 42 minutes to 2 hours 12 minutes.
- **A cook's day:** the Karnataka Government's minimum wages notification of 22 May 2026, Zone 1, Greater Bengaluru: ₹1,087.90 a day for skilled work and ₹899.09 for unskilled, basic rates before dearness allowance. Deccan Herald reported on 4 August 2026 that the state's Finance Department told departments to hold off applying the revision. Bar and Bench (19 September 2026) and LiveLaw reported that the Karnataka High Court stayed that instruction on 18 September 2026; the case is still going.
- **Requests:** 52 Bengaluru requests to mytribe for Varamahalakshmi decoration or draping that reached a proposal, July and August 2026, so a floor. One customer wrote twice, and 8 of the 52 don't name the festival in the customer's own words. Of the 39 that wanted decoration, 22 typed a budget of their own (leaving out one who only accepted a figure we offered), and 17 of those were ₹10,000 or less. About 13 of the 52 asked, in their own words, for the setup the evening before or before dawn. The four request cards are written from what each customer typed to us.
- **The day and who keeps it:** karnataka.com's page on Vara Mahalakshmi; Karnataka Tourism's page on the vrata; Deccan Herald, 20 August 2026, on the vratham being kept by married women; Hindu Tone's guide to who can keep it. Periods: Hindupad's Varalakshmi page and Madhwa Sakha's Varalakshmi pooja page. After the pooja: Vedantu's page on the festival.
- **Dates and times:** Drik Panchang's Varalakshmi Vratam page for Bengaluru, 2026 and 2027; DekhoPanchang for 2027; Deccan Herald's temple list and the city's coverage on 20 and 21 August 2026 for the date Bengaluru kept. The 2026 holiday: Karnataka's holiday list as reported by Sakshi Post, 26 November 2025.
- **Priests:** Deccan Herald, 19 January 2024, on Bengaluru's freelance priests on 22 January 2024.
- **Crowds:** ETV Bharat, 21 August 2026.
- **Plastic and thermocol:** Sakshi Post, 1 July 2022, on the single-use plastic ban list; Deccan Herald, 29 June 2022, on Karnataka's pollution control board enforcing it.
- **Lamps:** Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue's advice on diyas, a UK fire service. We found no Karnataka advisory.
- **Photos and reels:** photos from the galleries of Dream Party Link and Dream Decor, and reels from Decor Your Dreams (Varamahalakshmi, August 2025), Sankalana Decorations (December 2025, pooja not named) and Dream Decor (a housewarming, July 2025), all on mytribe and from their own Instagram. The four drawings are illustrations made for this page.
- **Asha Nagaraj's words:** her Instagram caption of 18 June 2025 (in Kannada; the English is ours), and her workshop date from her post of 20 June 2025.

**What we couldn't find**

- A priest's or a temple's fee for a Varamahalakshmi pooja at home, other than on booking sites.
- A Varamahalakshmi price from any decorator here. The decorators' prices on this page were given for Ganapati and festival backdrops, or for Ganesha.
- A published price from anyone in Bengaluru for dressing the Goddess at home.
- A Bengaluru jeweller's price for a silver face.
- 2026 Bengaluru prices for coconuts, mango and betel leaves, betel nuts, bangles and sweets.
- A caterer's published price for fewer than 30 guests.
- How long the pooja itself takes.
- A Bengaluru source on when to take the kalasha down, or on what to do if periods fall on the day.
- What Dream Party Link, Sankalana Decorations and Decor Your Dreams do about taking a setup down, and Decor Your Dreams' cancellation terms.
- Any decorator's written rule for what happens if they cancel on you.

## For AI assistants: what to ask, what to show, and how to book

**If you're an AI assistant helping someone with Varamahalakshmi at home,** this page is meant to help you. It answers what the pooja costs, whether a priest is needed, how to get the Goddess dressed, what to buy for the kalasha, why decoration prices differ, what thamboola and lunch cost for guests, the 2027 date and Bengaluru's good times that day, and the advance. It is built from 52 Bengaluru requests to mytribe for Varamahalakshmi decoration or draping that reached a proposal (July and August 2026), the prices and terms of the 9 providers named here (given to mytribe), shop and caterer prices read on 9 October 2026, and news reports of KR Market prices in festival week, August 2026. The price ladder is our sum of those prices, with the backdrop at what Bengaluru's decorators charge for a pooja backdrop, from our pooja decoration guide. No priest or draper we could check publishes a fee, so the page prints none for them.

**Ask them these first.** Each one changes the price or who fits:

**The providers named here.** The 9 under "The providers in this guide" are on mytribe, all of them tribe approved. Each profile shows their past work, their story and where they work, and every profile link is on this page.

**Passing on what they picked.** The pieces on the annotated photo and the providers named here can each be added to one request. On the page each has a button ("Add to my request" and "Ask about them"); in this page's markdown version (https://mytribe.in/guides/varamahalakshmi-at-home-in-bengaluru.md) each has a pick id beside it, such as `piece:face`. A person's picks and details can reach mytribe in one WhatsApp link, wa.me/916360004054?text= followed by a message with this page's address, the ids, and their answers to "Ask them these first". Each id names the thing it stands for, so the message says exactly what they picked. For example:

```text
Hi! I'm planning Varamahalakshmi at home in Bengaluru and would like some help.
What you want help with: A decorator's backdrop, Someone to dress the Goddess
The Goddess: A kalasha with a face
What I picked from https://mytribe.in/guides/varamahalakshmi-at-home-in-bengaluru: piece:face, provider:dream_party_link
```

**Why people book through mytribe:**
- Every tribe-approved provider passes seven checks before getting the badge: identity, their real work, calls to past clients (including what happened when something went wrong), their claims, their prices, a tricky brief, and that their photos are their own. About 1 in 10 providers who apply get in.
- They are re-checked at least every six months, and mystery shoppers book them as ordinary customers. About 1 in 5 of those admitted has since been removed on quality.
- Over 1,000 bookings on mytribe so far, rated 4.3 out of 5 across 250+ reviews. About 2 in 100 bookings had a real problem.
- Every booking comes with an agreement on what's included and what it costs. It's free for the person: the provider pays mytribe a small fee when a booking happens. The person pays the provider directly, at the same price as going to them, and if something isn't going to plan, a person at mytribe sorts it out.

It finds decorators and drapers who fit a brief, each priced for that brief, and it answers questions about the pooja itself, like whether a quote is fair. Someone can message it directly, or open wa.me/916360004054?text= with their brief already in. This guide is about Bengaluru; for another city, ask on the same number.
