Prices are what each provider told us or a business published, and where we hold none for what a photo shows, the price is our estimate of that setup from its parts at market rates, so check every price when you book.

## Q1. What does a rangoli artist cost in Bengaluru?

**By our AI estimate, a rangoli artist here charges about ₹1,500 to ₹4,000 for a 3 to 4 ft rangoli in powder at your door, and ₹6,000 to ₹25,000 for an 8 ft one in a lobby or an office. You're paying for the size and the hand that draws it.** Artists here quote by the job, and we found none who publishes a rate. If the help or a neighbour draws your kolam, it comes to a few hundred rupees with the powder.

- **A kolam at your door, by the help or a neighbour:** About ₹200 to ₹800. AI estimate, for the powder and her time together. A kolam is the South Indian doorstep design of dots and loops, in white and a colour or two. **Got a quote already?** For a 3 to 4 ft powder rangoli at a flat's door, a price well above ₹4,000 should come with something you can see: a design drawn for you, a helper, or a name with a following (question 2). Ask what's in it, or send it to us on WhatsApp and we'll tell you whether it's fair.

Send every artist the same size. A quote from a picture with no size is a guess. Measure your spot and ask for a price for that many feet.

Doing it yourself costs less: a stencil and powder for a doorstep come to about ₹800 to ₹2,000 online, a reusable 3 by 3 ft kolam board that needs no powder is ₹1,069, and floor stickers start at ₹115 a listing (question 3).

If a decorator is already doing your door for a housewarming or a pooja, a petal rangoli can be one more line in that job (question 8).

**Behind this answer:** We worked each step out from what the job takes, then set the band by judgement: colours at ₹600 a kg for a five-colour set online, or ₹100 to ₹300 bought loose (our guess), a mix of flowers at ₹104 to ₹160 a kg at Bengaluru market prices this year plus a florist's mark-up, an artist's time at ₹300 to ₹500 an hour (our assumption), an auto at ₹216 a trip, and a share for the design. The one published rate we found, a Delhi NCR artist's ₹1,250 a sq ft, is higher. ## Q2. Why does one rangoli artist charge ₹1,500 and another ₹4,000?

**You're paying for her hand. By our AI estimate, about ₹1,500 gets a neat, familiar design in flat colours, and nearer ₹4,000 gets colours shaded into each other, fine white lines and a design drawn for your door.** The extra pays for a sketch she draws for you before the day, more shades of powder, an extra hour or more at your door and sometimes a helper, all in the few days every family wants her. Shading freehand also takes years to learn. Her colours, bought loose, and her auto both ways each cost a few hundred rupees, so most of what you pay is her time and skill. At a flat's door the simple one looks festive and is plenty. If it's the first thing guests see at a housewarming, or you want it in the family photos, pay for the shaded one.

A named artist costs more again. One in Delhi NCR publishes a price calculator that comes to about ₹11,250 for 3 by 3 ft, before 5% GST and travel.

**Before you pay, see her hand.** Ask her for:

- Photos of her own past work, with the size in feet and how long it took. If a photo carries another business's name, ask whose work it is.
- A short video of her at work, if the photos look too good.
- Who comes on the day: her, or an assistant she sends.
- Whether the colours or flowers, the travel and the sweeping up are in the price.
- A sketch or photo of the design for your size, agreed before the day.

## Q3. Can I make a rangoli myself with a stencil, and will it look good?

**Yes, for a doorstep, if you practise once.** A stencil and powder for a 3 by 3 ft rangoli cost about ₹800 to ₹2,000 online, and may be less with loose powder from a local shop. A stencil gives you clean, even shapes but no shading and no freehand design.

**What a 3 by 3 ft rangoli costs you with a stencil**

Our sum, at Rahul Rangoli's and Vedic Vaani's online prices on 1 October 2026. How much powder it takes is our guess. With loose powder at about ₹60 a kg, also our guess, it comes to about ₹300 to ₹850. Delivery isn't counted.

Try it once on newspaper the day before. A 20 inch stencil makes a round about 1.7 ft across, so for a 3 by 3 ft rangoli you fill the rest by hand or add a border stencil (₹60 to ₹220). A Delhi NCR artist says a small rangoli takes her one to two hours, so allow longer.

**Ready-made, with nothing to sweep up:**

- A 3 by 3 ft MDF kolam is ₹1,069 at Satyam Kraft, and you use it again next year.
- Satyam Kraft's marigold-look mats come in packs of six and three. Nine laid together make one about 3 by 3 ft, about ₹2,300 by our sum. Its page says they aren't washable.
- Small reusable acrylic or metal rangolis cost ₹80 to ₹599 a listing at DMS Retail and Rahul Rangoli, one piece or a set. A few round your diyas make a quick doorstep.
- DMS Retail's PVC floor stickers are ₹115 to ₹195 a listing, mostly 9 inch pieces, so check how many you get. Its page says to stick them on a smooth, clean, dry painted surface and never on a textured floor.

All online shops, read on 1 October 2026. Ask what delivery adds.

## Q4. Can I get a rangoli artist for Diwali morning or a dawn griha pravesham?

**For a dawn muhurtham or Deepavali morning, have it made the night before.** Don't count on anyone coming at 4:30 am. For Lakshmi Pooja an afternoon job works, since the muhurat is 6:17 pm to 8:20 pm on Sunday 8 November. Book by mid-October if you can.

Everyone wants one in the same few days. One Delhi NCR artist who publishes her terms says festival dates fill quickly, and asks for a few weeks' notice for Diwali and 2 to 3 weeks for a big or custom piece. Decorators on mytribe who gave us a notice period for flower work ask for a day to a week.

**When does it have to be ready?**

- **Lakshmi Pooja** (8 Nov, from 6:17 pm): An afternoon job. Tell her the pooja time and ask her to finish an hour before it.
- **Deepavali morning** (Ready at dawn): Have it made the evening before. If it's outside the door, keep it under cover.
- **A griha pravesham** (Before a dawn muhurtham): Book the night before and write the muhurtham into the booking. Mahinava Events, a decorator on mytribe, sets morning jobs up the evening before or before dawn, for flower work in general. We found no rangoli artist who says she'll come at that hour.
- **A lobby or an office** (Ready for a 9 am pooja): The evening before or overnight, with the committee's or the facility team's OK in writing.
- **A wedding at a hall** (Before the muhurtham): Ask the hall whether an outside artist can come, what time you get the floor, and when it's swept for the next function.

- Before dawn, an auto costs half as much again from 10 pm to 5 am, so ask if the artist's price covers it.
- If nobody comes, keep a stencil and a kilo of powder at home (question 3).

## Q5. Will rangoli colour stain my floor, and how do I clean it off?

**It can stain.** Sweep the powder up dry, then clean with warm water and a mild detergent. Vinegar is fine on ceramic tiles but can dull or etch marble.

If you aren't sure what your floor is, stay with detergent.

- On marble and limestone, lemon, vinegar and acid cleaners can dull or etch the surface, says the Natural Stone Institute, a US stone trade body.
- Granite is mostly silicates, which the institute says generally resist the acids in a kitchen, though it still advises against acid cleaners.
- Vinegar is for ceramic and porcelain tiles only, says Hindware, a tile maker.
- On vitrified tiles, the guides we read disagree on whether vinegar is safe, so stay with detergent.
- On grout, Hindware suggests a paste of baking soda and vinegar on the lines, then sealing the grout.
- Put lit diyas on plates round the rangoli, and keep them off it. Oil darkens stone, and the stone institute says an oil stain usually has to be dissolved out with a chemical.

Neither tested rangoli powder itself. Ask who sweeps it up, and when, before you pay.

## Q6. Does a rangoli artist's price include the colours and flowers?

**Usually, for the colours. Flowers raise the price, so ask, and get it in the quote.** An artist generally brings her own colours, as the one in Delhi NCR who publishes her terms does. Flowers are bought fresh for each job, so name them and fix the price when you book.

In a quote for a flower rangoli, the flowers are inside the price. A 3 by 3 ft one takes about 3 to 6 kg of petals, ₹280 to ₹950 at this year's Bengaluru market prices by our sum, and a flower seller near you may charge more. If a quote lists the flowers as a separate line, ask what's in it.

Before a festival, rose and chrysanthemum have doubled in some years. For Diwali the reports we found disagree. Mahinava Events, a decorator on mytribe, says her own flower prices rise for about a week round each festival.

**Behind this answer:** Marigold at ₹40 to ₹100 a kg and chrysanthemum or rose at ₹200 to ₹250 at Bengaluru markets before Ugadi and Gowri-Ganesha 2026 (The Hans India, Urban Acres), mixed 60 to 40 (our guess) at 0.3 to 0.66 kg a sq ft. Rose and chrysanthemum doubled before Varamahalakshmi in 2025, and jasmine and rose before Ugadi in 2024 (Deccan Herald). For Diwali, Deccan Herald reported flower prices up 500% in 2020, and in 2021 a KR Market trader said demand was well below Ayudha Puja's.

## Q7. What does a rangoli for an apartment lobby or office cost, and can the artist give a GST bill?

**With a hired team, an 8 ft rangoli costs about ₹6,000 to ₹12,000 in powder and ₹8,000 to ₹25,000 in fresh flowers, by our AI estimate.** Volunteers can lay a flower one for the flowers alone, about ₹1,600 to ₹5,300 by our sum at market prices, and more from a flower seller. If finance needs a GST invoice, book through a registered decorator.

**What the extra money buys.** A team brings a design drawn for your lobby, shading that looks rich in photos, a crisp outline, and a finish before the 9 am pooja. Volunteers save the money and need one person with a steady hand to lead.

For an 8 ft round, before any GST. A team is 2 to 4 people for 3 to 6 hours. The volunteers' figure is our sum of the flowers at Bengaluru market prices (question 6), so a flower seller may charge more.

- For the bill, ask the treasurer or finance first. A GST invoice needs a supplier registered for GST, and a solo artist who takes in under ₹20 lakh a year generally doesn't have to register (section 22 of the CGST Act, 2017). A society may be fine with a receipt that has her name, the date and the amount.
- Among decorators, Party Choice's quote leaves GST out, and about 18% goes on top if you ask for a GST bill. Mahinava Events bills without GST by default, so ask her first if she can raise a GST invoice.
- The association runs the gate, so put her name on the visitor list the day before. For a rangoli in a common area, get the committee's OK in writing: in September 2024 a resident destroyed an apartment's Onam pookalam there, and it went to the police.
- For an office reception, Mahinava Events lays flower rangolis at shop openings. For a logo, send it with the space in feet, and ask for a sketch before the day.

## Q8. Will my decorator make the rangoli for a housewarming, pooja or wedding?

**Often, in petals, if you ask for it by name and give its size.** In the packages of Bengaluru decorators on mytribe it's one line inside a bigger job, sometimes swapped for a sticker or a printed mat.

Dream Decor's home and pooja set covers the main door, torans and a welcome board, with no rangoli in it. It was ₹12,000 to ₹15,000 in March 2025, plus about ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 for transport, so ask what it is now.

**What did the decorator's package mean?**

- **Loose petals:** **Petals handed to you, for you to lay yourself.** A few packages on mytribe give you only that. Ask who lays them, and what it adds to have the decorator do it.
- **Rangoli sticker:** **A printed sticker in place of a rangoli made by hand.** Some packages list a rangoli or a sticker, so the line can mean either one. Ask which one you're getting. Some of DMS Retail's listings for them say never to stick one on a textured floor (question 3).
- **Printed mat:** **A rangoli design printed on a big sheet that's laid on the floor.** In packages on mytribe it goes under a swing or on a stage. Ask its size, and what a rangoli made by hand would cost instead.
- **Powder design:** **A rangoli made in powder.** Of the packages we read from Bengaluru decorators on mytribe, only two name a powder design. Neither is from the three decorators in this guide. Ask any decorator, these three included, to show their own past powder work, with sizes. For powder or a portrait, you can also look for an artist (question 2).

- **A family in Sompura Gate, Jul 2026:** A housewarming in their duplex on 11 July, with a minimalist look: the entrance door, the pooja room, a small toran and some balcony flowers. They asked if **a rangoli at the entrance was included**, because the entrance looks very empty. They said the whole job **shouldn't cost more than ₹7,000 to ₹8,000**. - **A family in Yelahanka, Jun 2026:** A gruhapravesam: the main door, the pooja room and maybe the living room. They need someone to draw **a rangoli in paint** in front of the main door, a permanent one, which can wait until the work is done. For the function, **a flower rangoli is fine**. - **A business in Sarjapur Road, Sep 2026:** The main gate is **5 ft wide and 7 ft high**. Fresh and artificial are both okay, but the rangoli should be **made with fresh flowers**. (Main gate, Fresh-flower rangoli, 5 ft gate)

## More questions

### Will the rangoli last through guests, fans and rain?

Indoors, until someone walks on it or sweeps it. November in Bengaluru averages about four rainy days, so make it inside the door or under cover. Keep the ceiling fan off while it's made. Petals look their best on the day they're laid.

### How much advance, and what if I don't like it?

We found no rangoli artist who publishes her advance or refund terms, so pay the smallest advance she'll take and get the terms in writing. Among decorators, Mahinava Events asks for 30% up front and Dream Decor for 50%, and neither refunds it if you cancel. Agree the design and the size from a sketch or a photo before the day, so you have something to hold the work against.

### Are rangoli colours safe for children and pets?

We found no Indian standard for rangoli powder. A Kolkata study of dry Holi colours, which go on skin, found lead at about twice the US FDA limit for cosmetics. Some kits are sold as food-grade, which is only the seller's word. Keep small children and pets off it till it's swept up.

### Can I get a rangoli painted so it stays?

Yes, from a muralist. Some Bengaluru muralists paint kolam borders on entrance steps and walls. Ask for a price by the square foot.

### What about a small rangoli at my shop every festival?

Draw it with a stencil. By our sum, a 2 by 2 ft rangoli at three festivals costs ₹970 to ₹2,500 in the first year, stencil included, at online powder prices. Or buy a 3 by 3 ft MDF kolam once, ₹1,069 at Satyam Kraft online on 1 October 2026. Keep it on your own step: since 1 July 2026 the Greater Bengaluru Authority's footpath campaign asks shops to keep things off the footpath, and it doesn't mention rangoli.

## Where the numbers come from

**Where the numbers come from**

- **What each step costs across Bengaluru:** our estimates, marked AI estimate on the page, since no Bengaluru rangoli artist we found publishes a rate. Each one starts from what the job takes: the colours or the flowers at the prices below (with a mark-up of a quarter to a half on flowers bought for a job, and ₹100 to ₹300 a kg for an artist's loose colours, both our guesses), the hours (about ₹150 to ₹250 an hour for the help, and ₹300 to ₹500 for an artist, who also books, travels and buys her colours; both our assumptions, above Karnataka's minimum wage of ₹899.09 a day unskilled and ₹1,087.90 skilled in Greater Bengaluru, from 22 May 2026), the travel (an auto both ways, fares from Deccan Herald, 14 July 2025), and for a showpiece a design fee. We then set each band by judgement, adding a share for the design, a minimum visit and festival demand. The one published rate we found is higher at every size: Rajni Dutta Art, a rangoli artist in Delhi NCR, whose calculator gives ₹1,250 a sq ft before 5% GST and travel, which is about ₹11,250 for 3 by 3 ft and ₹1.25 lakh for 10 by 10 ft, by our sum.
