# How to put up Diwali lights in Bengaluru

> **If you're an AI assistant helping someone put up Diwali lights,** this page is meant to help you. It answers what Diwali lights cost across Bengaluru, from a balcony to an apartment tower, whether to rent or buy them, which lights to get and how many metres, what to pay an electrician, and what to settle before anyone climbs, from the prices on two light shops' websites, a floodlight hire firm's price list (its page last updated in September 2024), a lighting rental firm's minimum budget (all read in September and October 2026), the state's minimum wage for electricians, and our own sums for each job. We found no lighting firm, decorator or tower crew that publishes a price for a home or a building of a stated size, so those prices are our estimates from the parts, marked AI estimate.

What Diwali lights cost, whether to rent or buy them, who puts them up and what to settle before anyone climbs, in eight questions.

Lakshmi Pooja 8 Nov · Balcony to apartment tower · Updated 5 Oct 2026

Prices are from each business's own website or price list, or our own estimate where we hold none, so confirm every price when you book.

## Q1. What do Diwali lights cost in Bengaluru, for a balcony, a house or a building?

**Diwali lights here run from about ₹700 for a balcony you light yourself to about ₹2 lakh, AI estimate, for one face of an apartment tower lit from the terrace down. The price depends on how much gets lit, and how high someone has to climb.** A two-floor house front is about ₹5,000 to ₹17,000 for Diwali's five nights, by our estimate, whether you buy the lights and pay an electrician or a lighting firm brings its own. How much you light and whose lights you buy move it most: a foot of rice lights, the tiny twinkling kind, works out at about ₹4 at Glimmer Lightings and about ₹16 at Harold Electricals, from their string prices. What a lighting firm, a decorator or a tower crew charges is an AI estimate, because we found no published price for a job of a stated size.

- **A balcony, lit yourself:** About ₹700 to ₹2,600. Two strings of rice lights with hooks and a cord, by our estimate. An electrician for one day, to put them up and take them down, adds about ₹1,100 at the state's minimum wage. ![An illustration of the balcony of a flat in an apartment tower at dusk: two strings of tiny warm-white rice lights, one along the top rail and one zig-zagging down the grille, and a cord running in through the open door](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/d9f24898-70e4-4ebb-851e-93fde8d43777) Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of anyone's work.
- **The front of a house, outlined:** About ₹5,000 to ₹17,000. Every edge, each window and the gate, about 60 m; strings hanging down from the terrace, as in the picture, take it to 100 m and the top of the range. Buying and hiring a lighting firm cost about the same for five nights: our estimate for buying, an AI estimate for the firm. ![An illustration of a two-floor house at dusk, its terrace edge, first-floor edge, sides, windows, compound wall and gate outlined in warm-white rice lights, with strings hanging down from the terrace](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/2a0de85b-902e-46bc-ae7b-455309bfd3be) Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of anyone's work.
- **A villa and its garden, styled by a decorator:** About ₹20,000 to ₹70,000. AI estimate, for five nights. Curtains of light down the front, wrapped trees, a canopy over the lawn and lanterns at the gate, all in one warm white. ![An illustration of a villa at dusk: curtains of warm-white lights down the front wall, two garden trees wrapped in lights, a canopy of lights over seats on the lawn and paper lanterns on the gate pillars](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/2c16ca57-ff0b-4cae-9599-d263a9799d5c) Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of anyone's work.
- **An apartment tower, lit from the terrace down:** About ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh. AI estimate, for five nights. A lighting firm's long strings dropped down one face of a 15-floor tower, and the gate outlined. The crew's days at height are the biggest part of it. ![An illustration of an apartment tower at dusk with long vertical strings of warm-white lights hanging from the terrace down one face, the parapet outlined and the entrance gate lit](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/6af6d820-5c55-4c71-9656-98867c07e084) Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of anyone's work.

**More money lights more of the house, and lights it more evenly.** Rice lights you hang yourself give a twinkle along a grille or a window. A lighting firm's crew outlines every edge and hangs strings down from the terrace, so the whole front glows from the road. A decorator works in one warm white, with curtains of light and wrapped trees.

**Pick what you're lighting to see its price.**

**What are you lighting?**

- **A balcony** (About 25 m): **A balcony costs about ₹700 to ₹2,600 to light yourself, by our estimate.** That's two strings of rice lights at the low end, or a curtain light and a string at the high end, with hooks and a cord. Add an electrician for one day in all, one visit up and one down, and it's ₹1,800 to ₹3,700. Lucky Light House, one lighting firm, asks at least ₹5,000 for any job, which is more than a balcony needs. Ask your society about the grille first.
- **A terrace party** (One night, 25 ft of lights): **A 25 ft run of rice lights overhead costs about ₹500 to ₹1,000 with hooks and a cord, if you do it yourself, by our estimate.** A big-bulb string costs more: Glimmer's 25 ft one is ₹4,500, its price on 30 September, so about ₹4,800 to ₹5,300 with hooks and a cord, by our estimate. Both plug in, so for one night nobody needs to be hired. If you rent, ask the landlord before anything is fixed to the parapet.
- **A house front** (60 to 100 m): **A house front costs about ₹5,000 to ₹17,000 for Diwali's five nights, either way.** Buying the lights and paying an electrician and a helper to put them up and take them down comes to about the same, by our estimate, and the lights stay yours. The lighting firm's side of that range is an AI estimate. Doing it yourselves, the lights and fittings alone are about ₹1,600 to ₹8,800. Whoever climbs, ask who pays if they fall.
- **A villa** (Styled, or till New Year): **A villa styled by a decorator, with curtains of light, wrapped trees and a canopy over the lawn, is about ₹20,000 to ₹70,000 for five nights, AI estimate.** Lit plainly till New Year, with rice lights you buy on the front and three trees, it's about ₹10,700 to ₹26,400 by our estimate, with an electrician and a helper to put them up and take them down, power included. A firm's lights that long are charged by the day, so ask for a season price in writing.
- **Apartments** (12 flats, or a tower): **A 12-flat building's gate, stairs and front wall cost about ₹5,200 to ₹19,300 bought, put up, lit for five nights and taken down, by our estimate.** That is ₹440 to ₹1,600 a flat if the cost is split evenly. Lighting one face of a 15-floor tower is about ₹50,000 to ₹2 lakh, AI estimate, because the crew works at height for days. Get in writing how they'll reach each floor.
- **A shop front** (40 to 60 m): **A shop front costs about ₹3,200 to ₹8,600 bought, put up, lit for 15 nights and taken down, by our estimate.** That's two shutters and the signboard outlined. If you can't close the shop, ask for night work in writing, with the time they'll come.

[Ask on WhatsApp (WhatsApp +91 63600 04054)](https://wa.me/916360004054?text=Hi!%20I%20want%20Diwali%20lights%20put%20up%20in%20Bengaluru%20and%20would%20like%20help%20finding%20someone.)

**Doing it yourself works for a balcony or a terrace.** Rice lights plug in and nobody climbs. Above the first floor, pay someone with a ladder who does this often: the building's electrician or a local one. A rented floodlight on the ground can also wash a wall with light (question 4).

**Buying the lights for a house front and paying an electrician, line by line**

| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Rice lights (60 m at Glimmer's price, 100 m at Harold's) | ₹777 to ₹5,196 |
| Plug covers and junction boxes | ₹200 to ₹800 |
| Extension cords and boards | ₹300 to ₹1,000 |
| Clips, ties and hooks | ₹300 to ₹800 |
| A ladder: yours, or hired | ₹0 to ₹1,000 |
| Electricity for the five nights | ₹7 to ₹11 |
| An electrician and a helper (At the state's minimum wage. Putting up and taking down, a day and a half to three days) | ₹2,980 to ₹5,961 |
| Their travel | ₹0 to ₹300 |
| **Our estimate** | **₹4,564 to ₹15,068** |

Lights at the shops' own prices on 30 September 2026. The rest, and the days of work, are our assumptions. Labour at the state's minimum wage. Five nights: Friday 6 to Tuesday 10 November.

**Behind this answer:** Glimmer Lightings' and Harold Electricals' own websites, their prices on 30 September 2026. An electrician's time is at the state's minimum wage (question 3). Lucky Light House, one lighting firm in Wilson Garden, sets a minimum budget of ₹5,000 for any job; we found no other firm's minimum. What a lighting firm, a decorator and a tower crew charge is our estimate from the parts: the house front's is under question 2, the rest in Sources.

## Q2. Should I rent Diwali lights, or buy them and pay someone to put them up?

**For Diwali's five nights on a house front, renting and buying come out about the same by our estimate, at about ₹5,000 to ₹17,000. Buy if you'll light up again next year, or keep them on till New Year. Rent if you want it done and taken away, with nothing to store.** A rented set is charged for every day you keep it. Lights you bought cost mostly the hands next year, with no new set to buy: about ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 for an electrician and a helper, by our estimate. At the bottom you get the edges, windows and gate outlined, about 60 m. The top adds strings hanging down from the terrace, about 100 m in all, so the whole front glows. Ask which one a quote is for.

**Buy, and pay an electrician, About ₹4,600 to ₹15,100**
- The lights are yours for next year
- You pick the kind and the colour at the shop
- You book the take-down visit yourself
- 100 m lit every night till New Year adds about ₹130 in all to the power bill

**A lighting firm's own set, About ₹5,000 to ₹17,000, AI estimate**
- Their lights, their ladders, their crew
- They come back and take it all down
- Charged for every day, so a long stretch adds up
- Nothing to store afterwards

Five nights on a two-floor house front. Buying is our estimate from shop prices and the state's minimum wage. The lighting firm's price is our estimate from its parts, below.

**We found no lighting firm that prints a price for a house front of a stated size, so we worked it out from the parts.** A firm reuses its lights for years, so the crew's days are the biggest part of its price.

**What a lighting firm's five nights on a house front is made of**

| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| The crew (Low end: two people for a day. High end: three for a day up and two for half a day down. ₹1,100 to ₹1,500 a day each, what the firm pays a worker) | ₹2,200 to ₹6,000 |
| A share of their lights (A third to a half of what the strings cost them, since they reuse them) | ₹600 to ₹3,000 |
| Cords, boards, plug covers and clips | ₹300 to ₹800 |
| Transport, there and back | ₹500 to ₹1,500 |
| The firm's overheads and margin (40% to 50% on top of its other costs, about a third of the bill at most: its godown, its stock, booking and risk, and its profit) | ₹1,400 to ₹5,700 |
| **AI estimate** | **₹5,000 to ₹17,000** |

Our estimate from the parts at market rates. Lucky Light House's minimum budget of ₹5,000 sits at its low end.

**What one rental firm's terms look like.** Lucky Light House in Wilson Garden rents lights and prints no price for a house. Its FAQ says:

- Its minimum budget starts from ₹5,000.
- It charges the first day in full, then half the first day's bill for each extra day you keep the lights. It doesn't say whether the ₹5,000 is that first day's bill or the least it charges for the whole booking, so ask what five nights comes to.
- It writes the set-up and removal date and time into its quote, and adds transport on top.
- Once you've settled the quote, it sends a team to check the place. It doesn't say if that visit costs anything or can change the price, so ask.

## Q3. What should an electrician charge to put up Diwali lights?

**Ask for his day rate and how many days he needs.** A balcony is one visit up and one down, about a day's pay in all. A two-floor house front takes him and a helper a day and a half to three days, by our guess. No electrician we found publishes a festive price. At the state's minimum wage, the least an employer can pay, an electrician is about ₹1,090 a day and a helper ₹900, so a house front comes to about ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 at that floor, by our estimate. He sets his own rate, often above that in Diwali week.

A home-services app we looked at also sends someone to put up lights you've bought, priced by the string.

**What to ask him:**

- Whether the take-down visit is in the price, and its date.
- Whether he brings the ladder.
- What he charges to come back if the lights trip on Diwali night.
- To press the test button on your RCCB before he starts.

**If he's adding a socket,** a new plug point on the balcony or terrace is wiring work. The 2023 electricity safety rules leave that to a state-licensed electrical contractor. They don't say whether hanging plug-in strings counts.

**Behind this answer:** Karnataka's minimum wage notification of 22 May 2026 for Greater Bengaluru: ₹1,087.90 a day for skilled work such as an electrician's, and ₹899.09 a day for unskilled work such as a helper's.

## Q4. Which Diwali lights should I buy, and how many metres?

**Rice lights do most jobs: the tiny twinkling kind, about ₹4 to ₹16 a foot. To know how many, measure every edge you want lit in feet, add the run to the plug point, and divide by 3.3 for metres.** A 10 ft balcony takes about 25 m. A two-floor house front takes 60 to 100 m. A big-bulb string costs 10 to 50 times as much a foot, so keep it for a terrace or a doorway where people sit.

**Which light is which?**

- **Rice lights:** ![An illustration of a steel balcony railing at dusk with one string of tiny warm-white rice lights clipped along the top rail](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/dc94710d-a21d-4fed-a86e-a90825b8df1b) **Tiny LED points on a thin wire, set close together.** Also called serial lights. They give a twinkle along a grille, a window or a roofline, at about ₹4 a foot at Glimmer Lightings and ₹16 at Harold Electricals. Ask whether the plug is waterproof: Glimmer's own pages say the plug on its rice lights isn't. Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of any shop's lights.
- **Curtain light:** ![An illustration of a curtain light: many short strings of tiny warm-white bulbs hanging side by side across a balcony's glass door, seen from inside a flat](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/952d8d8e-97ff-4d11-aace-514867450acf) **Many short strings hanging side by side from one line.** It covers a window, a door or a balcony in one go. Glimmer Lightings' 9 x 9 ft curtain is ₹829, and Harold Electricals' 240-LED curtain is ₹1,999. Ask for its size in feet, against the wall or window you want covered. Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of any shop's lights.
- **Big-bulb string:** ![An illustration of a big-bulb string: large round warm bulbs on a black cable strung over a terrace table and two chairs at dusk](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/3dc5367c-5518-4ed1-80b4-89a2387b30e0) **Big round bulbs on a thick cable, spaced out.** A warm glow over a terrace table or a doorway. At Glimmer Lightings it's ₹4,500 for 25 ft. Ask whether its plug is waterproof: Glimmer's own pages say it isn't. Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of any shop's lights.
- **Rope light:** ![An illustration of a rope light: a smooth unbroken warm line of light along the edges of front steps and a low parapet at dusk](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/07b3ea4d-6e60-4602-9e61-d0889d69b405) **Small LEDs sealed inside a clear tube.** It gives one smooth, unbroken line of light along a parapet or a step. Ask for IP65 on the label if it goes out in the open (question 6). Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of any shop's lights.
- **Floodlight:** ![An illustration of a floodlight on a small stand in a front garden at dusk, washing a wall and a tree with a warm glow](https://assets.mytribe.in/insecure/rs:fit:1200:0/f:webp/plain/s3://mytribe-assets-production/pages/bd85a610-8786-4640-b429-c1e39d4c68c8) **One strong lamp that washes a wall or a tree with light.** No strings, and nobody climbs: it stands on the ground. You can rent one: TechnoRent in HSR Layout lists a 100 W LED floodlight at ₹250 a day, or ₹400 for three days. Ask how many your wall needs, and who collects them after. Picture: Illustration, not a photograph of any shop's lights.

Prices from each shop's own website on 30 September 2026, and TechnoRent's page, last updated in September 2024.

[Ask us which light suits (WhatsApp +91 63600 04054)](https://wa.me/916360004054?text=Hi!%20I%20want%20Diwali%20lights%20put%20up%20in%20Bengaluru%20and%20have%20a%20question%20about%20which%20lights%20to%20get.%0AThe%20light%3A%20)

**Metres for a typical job of each kind.**

| The job | Metres | What we counted |
|---|---|---|
| A 10 ft balcony | 25 m | 82 ft. The top and bottom rail and both sides, a string down the grille every foot, and 10 ft to the plug |
| A two-floor house front, 30 ft wide | 60 or 100 m | About 200 ft. The roof edge, the first-floor edge, both sides, the gate and compound, four windows and the run to the plug. 13 strings hanging 10 ft from the terrace add 130 ft |
| A 12-flat building | 80 or 150 m | About 260 ft. The gate and compound, the staircase up four floors and the front parapet. Strings down from the parapet and at the gate add about 230 ft |
| A shop front | 40 or 60 m | About 130 ft. Two shutters and the signboard outlined, with 20 ft to the plug. Strings down the sides add about 65 ft |
| Three trees in a garden | 120 m | Two 20 m strings wound round each trunk and its lower branches |

Our own measures for a typical job of each kind. Rice lights come in 12, 15, 20 and 25 m strings at Glimmer Lightings and Harold Electricals, so round up.

**What your lights cost, by the foot**

| | Rate | Whose rate |
|---|---|---|
| Rice lights | ₹4 to ₹16 a foot | ₹4 a foot at Glimmer Lightings, ₹16 at Harold Electricals |
| Big-bulb string | ₹170 to ₹200 a foot | Glimmer Lightings. A longer string costs less a foot. |
| Putting them up | Ask | We found no electrician's own price. The state's minimum wage is about ₹1,090 a day for an electrician and ₹900 for a helper, so ask his day rate and how many days. |

Worked example, for 200 feet:

- Rice lights: 200 feet at ₹4 to ₹16 a foot works out to about ₹800 to ₹3,200. ₹4 a foot at Glimmer Lightings, ₹16 at Harold Electricals.
- Big-bulb string: 200 feet at ₹170 to ₹200 a foot works out to about ₹34,000 to ₹40,000. Glimmer Lightings. A longer string costs less a foot.
- Putting them up: ask. We found no electrician's own price. The state's minimum wage is about ₹1,090 a day for an electrician and ₹900 for a helper, so ask his day rate and how many days.

Our sum: your length times each shop's price a foot. We worked each price out from the shop's string prices on 30 September 2026, and rounded each line to the nearest ₹100. Lights only. Strings come in set lengths, so round up to the next one.

[Send my length on WhatsApp (WhatsApp +91 63600 04054)](https://wa.me/916360004054?text=Hi!%20I%20want%20Diwali%20lights%20put%20up%20in%20Bengaluru%20and%20would%20like%20help%20finding%20someone.%0ALength%20to%20light%3A%20)

**Behind this answer:** Glimmer Lightings' and Harold Electricals' own websites, the price you'd have paid on 30 September 2026. Harold lists an experience centre in Bengaluru.

## Q5. Can my society or landlord stop me putting up Diwali lights?

**Yes, so get your society's or landlord's OK in writing before you pay anyone.** Beyond them, we found no rule that makes you ask anyone before putting lights on your own flat or house.

**Whose OK do you need for Diwali lights?**

- **A flat you own:** **Ask the society office in writing, a week before.** Its own rules decide what can hang on a grille or a front wall, and they differ from building to building. Get a gate pass for whoever's coming to put them up. Who says so: Your society's own rules. How firm: Their call, and it differs from building to building.
- **My own house:** **Nobody else's.** We found no permit you need for lights on your own house, and your own BESCOM connection runs them at the home rate. Who says so: No rule we found. How firm: Your call.
- **A rented place:** **Get the landlord's yes on WhatsApp, with how the lights will be fixed to the walls.** Then there's nothing to argue about when you move out. In a society, ask the office too. Who says so: Your landlord, and your society if there is one. How firm: Their call.
- **Whole building:** **Pass the lights as a committee resolution, with the cost per flat in it.** Then no flat can say later it never agreed to pay. Who says so: Your society's committee. How firm: The committee's call.

Where a building is registered under the Karnataka Apartment Ownership Act, 1972, every owner has to follow its bye-laws. We found no general rule on what Bengaluru societies allow on a grille or a front wall.

## Q6. Is it safe to run Diwali lights on my home wiring, and what if they trip in the rain?

**Yes, the load is small.** By our estimate, 100 m of LED string draws about 60 W. In the rain the weak points are the plug and the controller, so keep every one under cover. Press the test button on your RCCB before the lights go up.

**Use IP65 plugs outside, keep every plug under cover, and test the trip switch before you start.**

- **The trip switch.** The 2023 electricity safety rules require a residual current device of 30 mA or less in a home. On your board it may say RCCB or ELCB, and it has a test button. It cuts the power when current leaks, which a wet plug causes. Press the button before the lights go up: the switch should drop. If your board has none, have a licensed electrician fit one first. If it trips in the rain, find the wet joint and dry it.
- **The plug.** Glimmer Lightings' own pages say the plug on its rice lights and on its big-bulb string isn't waterproof. IP44 on a light means it takes splashes from any side, and IP65 a jet of water, so use IP65 for anything out in the open. It can rain in Diwali week: 71.2 mm fell on 6 November 2023, six days before that Diwali.
- **One socket, no chains.** Don't plug one extension board into another, and switch the lights off when nobody's home.
- **The bill.** By our estimate, 100 m of LED string lit six hours a night for ten nights adds about ₹22 at BESCOM's home rate, before tax. Rope or strip light, at about 5 W a metre, draws about eight times as much power as the LED string.

## Q7. Who pays if a worker putting up Diwali lights gets hurt, or the lights catch fire?

**Ask the firm to put in writing who pays before anyone climbs.** Lucky Light House's FAQ doesn't say who pays.

**If they won't write it down, assume you pay, and think again about any part of the job that needs someone on a parapet.**

- **What to ask for, in writing.** Who pays if their worker falls, and who pays if their lights or wiring burn your wall, your curtains or anything else.
- **Crackers.** Ask whether damage from crackers is covered, and keep rented strings away from where they go off.

## Q8. What should a Diwali lighting quote include, so there are no extra charges?

**Get one total that names the metres or floors, the kind of light, the nights and the day it comes down.** Two quotes for one house can be for different jobs. Ask what isn't listed and whether it costs extra.

**Ask for one total, and ask what is in it.** These are the four things that stop a surprise bill:

- The nights, and the day and time they take it down.
- The metres or floors, and who measures.
- Who brings the ladder and the power point, and whether transport is in the price.
- Who pays for damage to their lights.

**Why two quotes for one house differ:**

- **Whose lights.** A firm's price includes its own lights. With lights you bought, you pay only for the hands.
- **The kind of light.** A big-bulb string costs 10 to 50 times as much a foot as rice lights (question 4).
- **The metres, and who measures.** Ask whether every window and pillar counts.
- **The nights.** Rented lights are charged by the day.
- **The height.** Above the first floor, someone has to climb.

**Then the rest:** the kind and colour of light, steady or blinking, the wire colour if your wall is white, which socket it runs from, and a name to call on Diwali night.

**The advance.** Lucky Light House takes 50% of the total bill to confirm the booking, and wants the rest at handover, before the lights go on. So you pay before you've seen them work. Ask if they'll switch on once first. If you cut a lot from the order after booking, you can lose the advance. Ask in writing how much counts as a lot, and whether any of it comes back.

## Before you pay for Diwali lights, settle these six

1. The metres or floors, and who measures
2. The kind and colour of light, steady or blinking
3. The nights, and the day they come down
4. Who brings the ladder, the power and transport
5. Who pays if a worker's hurt or the lights are damaged
6. The advance, and a name to call on Diwali night

## Want us to find someone?

**Doing this yourself takes a week.** You call ten electricians and lighting firms, many don't pick up a number they don't know, and the ones who do quote for different jobs.

**Tell us once instead.** We find the electricians and lighting firms who fit, each priced for your Diwali lighting. Only about 1 in 10 providers who apply to mytribe get in, and every one is re-checked at least every six months. [How we verify](https://mytribe.in/how-we-verify)

Every booking comes with an agreement on what's included and what it costs. It's free for you. The electrician or lighting firm pays mytribe a small fee when you book, and you pay them directly, at the same price as going to them yourself. If something isn't going to plan, a person here sorts it out.

The same chat answers questions about the Diwali lighting itself, like whether a quote is fair. This guide is about Bengaluru; for another city, ask on the same number.

## More questions

### How early should I book Diwali lights?

Lucky Light House asks for a week, and takes last-minute orders if it's free. To have them lit from Dhanteras on Friday 6 November, for Lakshmi Pooja on Sunday the 8th, book by the end of October and write the set-up day into the quote.

### Should Diwali lights be warm white or coloured, steady or blinking?

Your call, but see it first. Ask for one string to be lit on your own wall at night before the rest goes up, because a colour on a phone screen looks different on a wall. Ask for steady if the family may tire of blinking, and point a blinking string away from a neighbour's window.

### Can I reuse last year's Diwali lights?

Yes, if each string works. Plug every one in on its own the week before, and throw out any with a cut or a loose wire. If you mix old strings with new ones, ask whoever puts them up whether the plugs match.

### How much do Diwali lights add to a shop's or an apartment building's bill?

Very little in LED. By our estimate, 60 m on a shop front, five hours a night for 15 nights, is about ₹19 at the commercial ₹6.80 a unit plus a surcharge of 35 paise a unit, before tax. Take a 12-flat building with 150 m of lights on its common meter. Ten nights adds about ₹33 at the home rate. On a high-voltage (HT) connection, the same building pays about ₹40, at ₹7 a unit plus the surcharge. Ask the society office which it has.

### Can a shop's lights go up after closing, or over the footpath?

Ask for night work in writing when you book, with the time they'll come. We found no Bengaluru rule on lights over a footpath either way. Since September 2025 the city has five corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority, so ask yours before anything crosses the footpath.

### Does an apartment tower need a fire NOC for Diwali lights?

We found no rule that asks for one. Karnataka's 2023 fire law asks for a fire NOC to put up a high-rise, and says nothing we found about lights on one that's already standing.

### We'll be away for Diwali. Can the lights run on their own?

Panasonic's advice is never to leave lights on with nobody home. If you're away, leave them off, or ask a neighbour to switch them on and off.

## Where the numbers come from

- **Lights to buy:** Glimmer Lightings' and Harold Electricals' own online stores: the price you'd pay, read on 30 September 2026 and the same on 4 October. We left out the higher struck-out price beside each.
- **Lights rented and fitted:** Lucky Light House's own FAQ, which we read on 2 October 2026 and again on 4 October. Its footer says 2020, so its figures may be that old. It says its minimum budget starts from ₹5,000. It charges the first day in full and each later day at 50% of the bill, except chandeliers. It says the price depends on the lighting. It prints no price for a house or a balcony. TechnoRent's floodlight prices from its own page, last updated 19 September 2024 and still showing them on 4 October 2026.
- **What a lighting firm, a decorator or a tower crew charges (AI estimates):** we found no lighting firm, decorator or tower crew that publishes a price for a home or a building of a stated size, so we built each from its parts at market rates, for five nights with the firm's own lights. The crew's days at ₹1,100 to ₹1,500 a day each, or ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 for work at height on a tower. A third to a half of what the firm's own lights cost it, at ₹30 to ₹60 a metre (₹30 to ₹50 on a tower), since it reuses them. Cords, boards and timers, transport at ₹500 to ₹1,500 a trip, and the firm's overheads and margin: 40% to 50% on a house front, 30% to 40% on a villa and 35% to 40% on a tower. The house front's lines are under question 2: about ₹5,000 to ₹17,000. A villa: about 300 m of warm-white strings, six curtain lights and four to six lanterns, poles for the canopy hired at ₹1,500 to ₹5,000, a crew of three or four for two and a half to three days, and two trips, about ₹22,200 to ₹66,500, printed to the nearest ₹10,000. One face of a 15-floor tower: 20 to 30 strings of 45 m from the terrace plus the parapet and the gate, a crew of four to six for three to five days, cabling from the common meter with boards, timers and a trip switch at ₹5,000 to ₹15,000, and a share of harnesses and ropes at ₹2,000 to ₹5,000, about ₹48,600 to ₹1.87 lakh, printed to the nearest ₹50,000. Lucky Light House's ₹5,000 minimum budget is the one lighting firm's figure we print to check them against.
- **Labour:** the Karnataka Government's minimum wages notification of 22 May 2026 (Karnataka Gazette, 25 May 2026), Zone 1, the Greater Bengaluru Authority's area: ₹28,285.47 a month for skilled work, which its job list says includes electricians, and ₹23,376.43 for unskilled, which includes general helpers, over 26 working days. The yearly dearness allowance is on top and isn't counted.
- **Our own sums:** every "done yourself" and "bought and put up" figure, the metres for each job and the electricity. Cords, clips, covers, ladders, travel, the metres and the days of work are our assumptions. LED string at 0.6 W a metre, which is one seller's figure for a 10 m string and so a rough guide, and rope or strip light at 5 W, six hours a night.
- **Electricity:** KERC's tariff order of 27 March 2025, on BESCOM's site (for 2026-27, ₹5.80 a unit for homes, ₹6.80 for shops, ₹7 for apartments on HT supply, before tax), and its order of 18 March 2025 on the 35 paise a unit pension surcharge (Deccan Herald, 20 March 2025). The 27 March order's general term 8 and the note under the LT-1 home tariff allow temporary lighting on a connection, up to its sanctioned load, at the normal rate. Neither names Diwali, so applying them to a home's lights is our reading.
- **Safety and rain:** the CEA safety regulations, 2023, regulations 31 and 44; the IP ratings in IEC 60529; Panasonic Life Solutions India's Diwali safety advice, 13 October 2025; Deccan Herald, 8 November 2023, for the rain.
- **Societies and the city:** the Karnataka Apartment Ownership Act, 1972, sections 7 and 16, on following the bye-laws; the Karnataka Fire Force (Amendment) Act, 2023; Deccan Herald, 2 September 2025, on the five corporations.
- **Dates:** Lakshmi Pooja on Sunday 8 November 2026 and Dhanteras on Friday 6 November, from Shubh Panchang's Diwali calendar.

**What we couldn't find**

- A local electrician's own price for putting up festive lights. We used the state's minimum wage.
- How many metres or floors a lighting firm's price covers.
- What a lighting firm or a decorator charges for a house, a villa or a tower of a stated size. Lucky Light House's FAQ gives only a minimum budget of ₹5,000, so those prices are our estimates.
- What a crew costs to work at height, on ropes or scaffolding, or to insure.
- Any Bengaluru rule on who's liable when a worker is hurt, or on lights over a footpath.
- A rental price for a string of lights by the metre or the string.
- A dated price from the lights shops on SP Road, Avenue Road or Chickpet.
- How long outdoor strings last in Bengaluru rain.
