## Q1. What does it cost to do up a balcony in Bengaluru?

**Doing up a balcony here runs from under ₹5,000 for ten small plants, pots and soil that you pot yourself to ₹1 lakh and more when a firm redoes the whole balcony. The price depends on how much gets built.** Half the 16 people who gave mytribe a budget had ₹20,000 or less, and the other half ₹22,500 or more. A gardener who picks plants for your light and plants the balcony for you starts at about ₹15,000 near RR Nagar, and goes up with the job. A new floor or a built-in seat is a build, and the firms here start at about ₹50,000.

- **Ten plants in plain pots, potted by you or a gardener:** About ₹4,300 to ₹5,300. Small plants, pots and soil bought online, in a row along the railing, and it all moves with you. Each photo shows the kind of job at its step. We don't know what those balconies cost.

**Doing it yourself costs under ₹5,000 for ten plants, with pots and soil.** Two online nurseries deliver here, Urvann and Nurserylive, and the horticulture department at UAS GKVK sells plants from ₹20 for curry leaf. Many arrive small, in 4-inch nursery pots.

Our pick from Urvann's and Nurserylive's websites, read in September 2026. Urvann delivers free next day in Bengaluru on eligible orders and Nurserylive's shipping page lists ₹79, so it stays under ₹5,000. Urvann calls some plastic pots terracotta red, so check the material.

**A gardener to pot those ten plants brings the total to about ₹4,900 to ₹5,300, at the lowest pot price.** Here is what gardeners charge:

- **Garden Care Services,** a gardening company in east Bengaluru: from ₹749 for an hour, from ₹2,200 for a day and from ₹60 a pot to repot. Hourly work has a one hour minimum, so ask if ten pots cost less than that.
- **Make Heaven My Garden,** on mytribe: ₹1,500 to ₹1,800 for a gardener's day.

We couldn't find a published rate for a freelance mali, so ask the one who works your building.

**Grass on the floor alone costs far less than a build.** For 100 sq ft, grass from the providers here is about ₹6,500 to ₹10,900 before delivery and laying, and drain cells under it add about ₹5,000. Question 3 works it out for your size.

**Closing it in is a separate job.** Netting, glass and a roof are priced by the size of the opening, and need your association's yes first. Question 3 has the rates.

## Q2. Why does a gardener or designer charge more than a nursery for the same plants?

**The plants cost about the same wherever you buy them. A nursery sells you the goods. A gardener sells you his eye and his hands, and that's the extra.** At Naviisha Greens' prices, eight plants, seven planters and two stands come to about ₹14,500 by our sum, with delivery and placing. Make Heaven My Garden comes to see your sun first, picks what will live in it and plants it all. Add his own quote lines for his gardeners, his visit and transport to the same goods at the nursery's prices, and our sum comes to about ₹16,500 to ₹20,600 before tax, about ₹2,000 to ₹6,000 more than the nursery. Neither total is a quote. His smallest jobs start at about ₹15,000 near RR Nagar, and this list comes to more, so send him the list and ask.

- Transport is its own line on his quotes, ₹1,350 to ₹2,500. In our sum it takes the place of the nursery's ₹1,500. Tax is added at billing

Naviisha Greens' total is our sum of their prices for the goods. Make Heaven My Garden's is where his balcony jobs start near RR Nagar, not a quote for this order, so send him the same list and ask. Both were given to us.

**What the extra buys is a balcony that looks planted, with plants picked for its light.** Pots put where you point stand in a row. A gardener sets them at different heights, with something hanging and something tall, so it reads as one garden. Sqft Farm, who design balconies, say it this way:

**A designer costs more again, because a designer sells you the whole balcony.** Sqft Farm, one design firm, has a smallest job of ₹50,000. For it they might do one of two things: lay a floor and panel a wall, or build a seating corner, with some plants either way. If plants are all you want, a nursery or a gardener is enough.

**The extra doesn't cover upkeep.** Whoever plants it, somebody has to water and feed it every week, and Question 6 has what that costs.

## Q3. What does a balcony makeover cost per square foot?

**Grass from the providers here costs about ₹65 to ₹110 a square foot before anyone lays it. A firm that does the whole balcony prices the finished job, and Garden of Joy's rate for that is ₹950 to ₹1,350 a square foot.** One is a material and the other a finished balcony, so ask what a rate covers before you compare two quotes.

Worked example, for 100 sq ft:

- Grass, 40 mm up to 50 mm high density: 100 sq ft at ₹73 to ₹109 a sq ft works out to about ₹7,300 to ₹10,900. Naviisha Greens, on mytribe. Delivery is charged on top, and the minimum order is ₹10,000. We worked the rate out from their prices for 55 sq ft, a sample quantity: ₹4,000 for 40 mm and ₹6,000 for 50 mm high density.
- Laying it: ask. You, or a gardener by the day: ₹1,500 to ₹1,800 at Make Heaven My Garden.

**What does the quote mean?**

- **35 mm, 50 mm:** **How tall the grass blades are.** Taller grass feels softer and usually costs more a square foot: Naviisha Greens' 40 mm is about ₹73 and their standard 50 mm about ₹84. Ask for the height in millimetres on the quote, so two prices compare.
- **High density:** **More blades to each square foot,** so it looks fuller. Naviisha Greens' 50 mm grass is about ₹109 a sq ft in high density and about ₹84 in standard. Ask which density the price is for.
- **UV stabilised:** **Made to stand the sun,** so it fades and goes brittle more slowly. It matters most on a balcony that takes the afternoon sun. Ask whether it's UV stabilised, and what warranty comes with it.
- **Drain cells:** **Plastic grid tiles laid under the grass,** so rain runs off to the drain instead of sitting under it. Make Heaven My Garden put them at ₹75 a cell on one quotation, about ₹50 a sq ft there. Ask what goes under the grass, and whether laying it is in the price.
- **Supply only:** **They deliver it and you lay it,** or pay someone to. Naviisha Greens sell grass this way. Ask who lays it, and what that costs.
- **Turnkey:** **The firm does the whole job,** from the floor to the plants. Garden of Joy say their turnkey service takes in the structural work and waterproofing. Ask whether the structural and waterproofing work is inside the number.

## Q4. Plants first, or somewhere to sit? We can't afford both yet.

**Do the one you'll use every day first, and add plants in stages.** Plants you can buy a few at a time. A floor or a bench is one job, done once, by somebody who builds.

- **Plants first:** The same balcony as in the first question, from another angle. - **A seat first:** A slatted wall, a bench and lights. **Start with plants if you want it all to move with you. Start with a seat if you want it built in.**

**Want both?** That's two trades. Ask which half they do themselves and who they bring in for the other. Then ask where the plants sit in the quote: usually the last line, and the first one cut when the number comes back high. Ask who supplies the chair, too. On ₹20,000 to ₹30,000, one way is a gardener for the plants and a chair you buy yourself. Even a firm makes you choose: in Sqft Farm's words, their ₹50,000 might go on a seating set, a swing and 2 or 3 mature plants, or on grass, a wood panel on one wall and 4 or 5 plants.

**Measure what's left after what has to stay.** Nearly half (46%) of the 123 balcony requests we got say something out there has to stay. Stand in yours and take out the door swing, the drying rack, the AC's outdoor unit and room to walk. What's left is what you're furnishing, so send that size with your first message.

**Settle four things before anybody measures.**

- **Where the clothes dry.** If the answer is nowhere, it's a laundry again within a month.
- **Which pots stay.** Some designers leave clearing old pots to you.
- **What hangs from the ceiling.** A drying rack up there rules out ceiling panelling.
- **The AC's outdoor unit.** Does it stay, and can someone still reach it?

Misty Garden Weldscape build balconies out from scratch and won't work around a plant collection you already own. If you have forty pots you love, ring a gardener instead, or ask a designer how many they'd keep.

## Q5. Will anything be drilled, and whose yes do I need?

**Pots, planters, loose furniture and deck tiles need no drilling, and rarely draw a notice.** Anything drilled needs your landlord's yes in writing. Anything seen from outside the building, like glass, a roof or a net, needs your association's.

**If you rent, everything that goes in should leave with you.** A planter hung on a railing that's already there isn't drilling, and a bracket in the wall is. Interlocking deck tiles that lie loose aren't, and a frame fixed to the ceiling is, so pick a hanging chair on its own stand. Naviisha Greens drill nothing.

Photograph the balcony before anyone starts: that photo is the whole deposit conversation later. Then get the landlord's yes on WhatsApp. This works: "I want to put some plants and a chair on the balcony. Nothing goes into the walls or the floor, and I'll take it all with me. Is that alright?"

**If you own, protect the floor and the drain.** The floor's slope and the waterproofing under it are all that keep water out of the flat below. Before anything is screwed down, ask two things:

- Is the builder's waterproofing warranty still running?
- Is the deck frame screwed down or lying loose on the tiles?

Then ask for a removable panel over the floor drain. Soil and leaves will block it, and under a fixed deck the only way in is to take the deck up.

A designer who does no civil work won't fix a slope. Garden of Joy say structural work and waterproofing are part of their turnkey service, so ask if they're in the price.

**Put heavy pots against the wall and light things by the railing.** A balcony is a slab held at one end, and the Indian loading code checks it hardest at the outer edge.

**For your association, the line is the outside of the building.** Glass, a roof, netting or a frame above railing height usually needs the committee. A balcony is for your exclusive use: RERA calls it "meant for the exclusive use of the allottee". Work out which side of the line your plan is on before you pay anyone to design it.

- **Get the yes in writing,** in the minutes or on the association's own email. A spoken yes from this year's secretary means nothing to next year's committee, and a WhatsApp to one office bearer isn't enough.
- **Ask what they want first:** working hours, a refundable deposit, ID copies for the workmen, the service lift.
- **Ask who clears the waste.** Old tiles, bags and offcuts have to leave the building, and the society won't collect them.

## Q6. Will the plants survive, and what does upkeep cost after they leave?

**Count your hours of direct sun before anyone writes a plant list, then budget for upkeep: about ₹1,000 to ₹4,000 a month for a small balcony, at the rates below.** Make Heaven My Garden, on mytribe, charge ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 a month for a small balcony near RR Nagar.

**Stand on the balcony on a Sunday and count the hours of direct sun.** A west balcony taking hard afternoon sun suits sun lovers like bougainvillea, hibiscus and ixora. A north one that barely gets any suits money plant, snake plant and peace lily. Sqft Farm treat a site visit as standard and use it to check the sun, the floor levels and the drainage before they firm up the price.

What looking after balcony plants costs in Bengaluru. Rates from providers on mytribe, given to us, and rates published by other firms.

**No provider we read puts upkeep in the quote, and it adds up.** If a gardener looks after it at ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 a month, three years is ₹36,000 to ₹72,000. That's more than the ₹18,750 median budget of the 10 people who named a budget for plants and pots.

**If the plants die.** Sqft Farm print a 30-day free replacement on their own quotation. Ask everyone for their replacement window in writing, and hold back the last payment until the planting has come through a month.

**When you travel.** Ask who waters it when you're away for ten days. If the answer is nobody, say so now and buy plants that survive being left alone.

## Q7. How long does it take, and how far ahead should I ask?

**The work takes days. The wait before it is the long part.** Garden of Joy put a balcony at one to two days and Sqft Farm write eight days on their quotation, but nothing starts until somebody has come and looked.

**Before the work, somebody visits, a design is agreed and the advance clears.**

- **Before anyone quotes:** Somebody comes to look. Make Heaven My Garden and Garden of Joy charge for that visit, and Sqft Farm and Misty Garden Weldscape visit too, so ask what theirs costs.
- **Before any money moves:** A design gets agreed. Misty Garden Weldscape put a 3D drawing in front of you and take the advance only once you approve it.
- **Once the advance clears:** Material goes on order. Naviisha Greens deliver what's in stock the same day or the next, and take three to four days on what isn't. Anything welded or cut is made after the design is signed off.
- **The work:** The short part. Garden of Joy say one to two days. Sqft Farm write eight days on their quotation and charge nothing extra if they run late.
- **Alongside all of it:** If anything changes how the building looks from outside, the association comes first. We couldn't find how long a committee takes to say yes.

**A design takes a few rounds before anyone starts work.** Koolkraft, who isn't taking new bookings right now, posted a rough sketch of one balcony with this:

**Work back from the day you want it finished.** 39% of the 123 balcony requests we got named a date, and 94% of those wanted it done inside a month. If your date is days away, skip the visit and the design. One online nursery delivers next day in Bengaluru, and Naviisha Greens deliver what's in stock the same day or the next.

## Q8. What's left out of the quote, and how do I check it before I pay?

**Seven things are often left out: the site visit, a project management fee, GST, transport, clearing old soil, clearing your old pots and the furniture.** Each one is outside a quoted number at one provider or another here. Settle all seven on the phone, before you pay the advance.

Here is what each provider charges for a visit, takes up front and leaves out of the number:

From each provider's terms, given to us by September 2026. A percentage is a share of your total.

**Make every quote say whether tax and any fee are in or out.** A designer may add a project management fee on top of the subtotal. One designer's is 18% (Koolkraft, who isn't taking new bookings right now), so a ₹40,000 subtotal becomes ₹47,200 before any tax. And ask whether the visit comes off the bill if you go ahead. One gardening service in the city charges ₹449 for a visit and does that.

**Two quotes far apart are usually two different jobs.** For example, a ₹12,000 quote may be grass laid over your tiles, and a ₹55,000 one grass, planters, lights and a design. Sqft Farm quote every element on its own line with the add-ons marked Optional, so you see what dropping one saves. Ask everyone for that.

**Three checks that cost nothing.** Sqft Farm's own quotation says the first price is a draft until they have measured. So before you pay:

- **Ask for photos of balconies they've finished.** They show the edges, the joins and how the job was left.
- **Hold the material before you approve it.** Misty Garden Weldscape bring the real deck tile and grass to your home. Grass looks different on your own floor in your own light.
- **Ask who's doing the work on the day,** and what they don't do. Naviisha Greens drill nothing, and Misty Garden Weldscape won't work around plants you already own.

- **Someone in AECS Layout, Aug 2026:** A balcony in a duplex flat, 7 m by 3 m, facing east with sun all day. Closed in fully **so the cats can roam**, keeping the cat enclosure they already have. **The washing machine, the clothes-drying area and the sink stay**, and the swing can move. Storage, garden and a private sitting space. As low as possible, and done immediately. (Cats, Full enclosure, As low as possible)

- **Someone in Marathahalli, Aug 2026:** Balcony renovation and covering. ## More questions

### Can I just use artificial grass and fake plants?

Plenty of people do. About a quarter of the balcony requests we got ask for artificial grass, turf or fake greenery. Ask for the grass height in millimetres and whether it's UV stabilised.

### Nobody at home is going to water anything. Should I still do plants?

Yes, but say that sentence on the first call, because it changes which plants get suggested. And check where the water comes from before the pots arrive: some balconies have no tap.

### My balcony is high up and very windy. Does that matter?

More than people expect. Big soft leaves shred, light plastic pots tip over, and anything tall has to be staked or weighted. Say which floor you're on when you first ring.

### Are those felt pocket vertical gardens a good idea?

They're hard to keep alive on a balcony here. They want water almost daily and the wall behind them stays damp. A tiered stand or a rail of pots is far easier.

### Is netting for pigeons part of this job?

It's a separate trade, and it usually needs the committee because it changes how the building looks from outside. Jeevan Safety Nets, a Bengaluru installer, say the industry rate for netting is ₹18 to ₹24 a sq ft. They say their own price differs, and that a small job pays a minimum charge.

### Will the plants bring mosquitoes?

Only if water stands. Saucers left full and a blocked floor drain are what breed them, so empty the saucers and put a mesh over the drain outlet.

### If I tell them my budget, will the quote come back at exactly that?

Say the number anyway. Without it you get quoted for the wrong job. What protects you is a quote written line by line, with a quantity and a rate on each line.

### Do I have to give the workers tea, lunch or a tip?

Water and tea is the normal courtesy. Lunch isn't expected on a quoted job, and neither is a tip. Sort out who lets them in each day, and whether the building wants ID copies first.

## Where the numbers come from

**Where the numbers come from**

- **Requests:** 123 Bengaluru requests to mytribe about doing up a balcony, April to September 2026. Budgets are from the 16 who typed a figure of their own for one balcony, for the balcony job alone. A budget picked from a menu on our pages doesn't count, nor does a figure that matched a range or a quote we had shown them, nor one we only wrote down from a phone call. Where someone gave a range we counted its halfway point. The four request cards are written from what each customer typed to us.
- **Providers:** the rate cards, quotations, catalogues and terms of the nine providers above, given to mytribe by September 2026. Naviisha Greens' prices were confirmed to us in October 2025. We print a price only where the provider gave it themselves. Misty Garden Weldscape's and Ahava Garden's are the smallest job they take. What Sqft Farm's ₹50,000 buys is their own description, given to our curation team, and they say the exact contents vary.
- **Other businesses' published prices:** each business's own website, read in September 2026. Urvann, Nurserylive and Idyl for plants, pots, potting mix and neem oil. The UAS GKVK horticulture department's price list, effective 1 October 2024. Garden Care Services, Bangalore Agrico and Yoidentity for gardeners, care plans and visits. Jeevan Safety Nets for netting and Architects4Design for sliding glass. The ten-plant list is our pick from their listed prices, and the 100 sq ft and 10 by 8 ft figures are our arithmetic on each rate.
- **Our sums and estimates:** the price ladder's steps come from the prices on this page. Naviisha Greens' ₹12,970 to ₹13,120, and ₹14,500 with delivery, are our sums of their prices. The ₹600 to pot ten plants is at the lowest pot price. The ₹65 to ₹110 a sq ft for grass, and the ₹1,000 to ₹4,000 a month for upkeep, are the spread of the rates on this page. The top of the gardener's step is an AI estimate: 15 plants, ten pots or planters, two stands, soil, a gardener, transport and a visit, priced at our providers' own rates, come to about ₹17,000 to ₹32,000. We checked the build step the same way: grass on drain cells, a panelled wall, three planter boxes, five mature plants, lights and three or four days' work for three people come to about ₹48,000 to ₹78,000 for 100 sq ft before any furniture, with or without a designer's fee. Its top is where the turnkey firms start.
- **Load and law:** IS 875 (Part 2) 1987, Table 1: a balcony is designed for 3.0 kN a square metre spread over it and 1.5 kN a metre run at its outer edge. - **Photos, videos and quotes:** from the galleries and Instagram posts of the providers named on this page. The first two pictures on the price ladder are illustrations, not any provider's work. The grass calculator multiplies your size by each rate shown. Naviisha Greens' ₹73 and ₹109 a sq ft are our sums from their prices for 55 sq ft (₹4,000 and ₹6,000), and the ₹50 a sq ft for drain cells is our sum from one quotation, ₹75 a cell for 144 cells under 216 sq ft.

**What we couldn't find**

- What a freelance mali charges.
- A price for a loose chair or table on its own from anyone we work with.
- What an installed balcony roof costs. Nobody we found publishes a price for one.
- The Bengaluru byelaws on enclosing or roofing a balcony, the current GST rate on works contracts, and planting-season weather data. The official sources wouldn't load, so check with your association and your architect.
- What associations ask as a deposit before work, and how long a committee takes to say yes.
