This approach lets your pup dictate the pace, allowing them to decompress and engage their natural instincts. It is far more tiring and satisfying for a dog to sniff their way through a walk than it is to simply follow me from point A to point B. Many pet parents come to me feeling stressed because their daily walks have turned into a chore. They pull, they rush, and they constantly battle for control. I teach a different approach: we treat the walk as a conversation between you and your dog, not a test of obedience. ### Why Sniffing Matters When I take a dog out, I am not looking for a specific distance. I am looking for opportunities for them to 'sniffari.' Sniffing is how a dog reads their environment. It lowers their heart rate, builds confidence, and provides the mental exercise they often miss out on with high-intensity play or repetitive, fast-paced walking. This is particularly helpful for dogs who struggle with reactivity or anxiety in busy Bengaluru neighborhoods. ### The 'J-Shape' Technique If you find leash walking frustrating, you are likely missing the 'J-shape' rule. Your leash should always have a gentle curve between you and your dog. If that leash is tight, you are physically creating tension that travels down to your dog. I work with you to handle the leash as a communication tool rather than a way to steer or force movement. ### My Approach in Bengaluru Whether we are navigating a quiet lane or exploring a new park, I adapt the walk to the individual dog. Some dogs are Explorers who want to smell everything; others are Observers who prefer to sit and take in the world. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all training. By respecting your dog's personality and letting them lead the sensory discovery, we build a deeper level of trust.
