If you keep the leash slack and give your dog space to sniff, you are letting them explore while staying connected to you. It is a shift from 'control' to 'cooperation', and it is usually the first thing we work on during my home visits to help you find that rhythm. ### Why Your Dog Pulls (And Why It Is Not Their Fault) Most people think a pulling dog is a disobedient one. The reality is usually different. Your dog is likely overwhelmed by the sensory overload of city life in Bangalore. They want to investigate everything at once, and when you pull back to stop them, they often pull harder against the tension. It becomes a tug-of-war that neither of you enjoys. ### The 'Sniffari' Approach I advocate for 'sniffaris'—walks where the dog gets to lead with their nose. Sniffing is mentally exhausting in the best way possible. It lowers their heart rate and reduces stress far more effectively than just marching them in a straight line for kilometers. When we incorporate sniffing into our training, your dog becomes calmer and more responsive because their needs are actually being met. ### How We Will Train Together * **The Environment:** I come to you. We work in your specific neighborhood, your local park, and your apartment complex because that is where the real-life distractions happen. * **The Equipment:** We will assess what you are currently using. Sometimes a simple switch in technique or tools can instantly reduce the friction on your walks. * **The Process:** We start slow. We do not jump straight into busy streets. We practice in low-distraction zones until your dog understands that walking near you is rewarding and safe. * **Your Role:** You will learn to read your dog’s body language. Are they stressed? Are they over-threshold?
