## About GAIA, Chennai: A Minimalist Tropical Sanctuary

The landscaping for this home follows a strict local-sourcing mandate. Every plant, from the grand frangipanis to the wispy spider lilies, was sourced within a four-kilometer radius of the site. By working exclusively with species native to this specific micro-climate, we created a self-sustaining tropical sanctuary that feels naturally rooted in Chennai.

What began as a 2,000 sqft outhouse project evolved into a 10,000 sqft residence. This shift allowed us to rethink the scale of the home, prioritizing a central tropical courtyard that serves as the heart of the structure. We opted for a monochromatic palette throughout, utilizing raw stone and wood to anchor the interiors.

Our focus was on the interplay of light and shadow, which shifts dynamically across the corridors and walls throughout the day. By using traditional Indian furniture and regional art, we ensured the house feels deeply connected to its context. Every element, from the layout of the puja room to the integration of the study, was designed to foster quietude and slow living. This home represents our commitment to minimalist architecture that does not sacrifice warmth or character.
