My approach to these workshops involves breaking down the 'Nayika' archetypes and the internal emotional landscape of a Thumri or Ghazal before we even focus on the movement. We analyze the 'why' behind every gesture, ensuring your performance comes from a place of genuine intent rather than just memorized steps. Abhinaya, or the art of expression, is where the technical rigor of Kathak transforms into poetry. In these sessions, we move beyond the basics of Nritta (pure dance) to explore the nuances of Nritya (expressive dance). ### The Jaipur Gharana Approach As a practitioner of the Jaipur Gharana, I focus heavily on the specific 'laya' (rhythm) inherent in a character's journey. Whether we are portraying the longing of a Virahini or the devotion of a Bhakti-centric piece, the movement must follow the natural gravity of the emotion. ### What You Will Explore * **Storytelling Structures:** Understanding the distinct shades of love, illusion, and separation (Viraha) within classical compositions. * **Ghazal & Thumri Interpretation:** We dissect the poetic layers of the lyrics, using subtle hand gestures and facial movements to convey deep meaning. * **Internalizing Emotion:** We practice the art of 'Bhaav', teaching you to internalize the emotion so that your dance feels like an extension of your own experience. ### Who Is This For? These workshops are designed for serious students who have at least three years of foundational training. Because we deal with complex rhythmic structures and advanced emotional work, a strong grasp of Teentaal and basic footwork is required. This is for the dancer who wants to stop performing and start communicating.
