Kathak is often misunderstood as merely a collection of spins and movements, but its soul lies in the mathematics of rhythm, or Layakari. Whether you are learning online via Zoom or at my Vile Parle studio, the approach remains the same: we focus on the relationship between your body, the floor, and the beat. ### Why Technique Defines Your Journey Learning proper Tatkaar (footwork) is not just about making sound. It is about alignment. A heavy or flat-footed landing can lead to injury and creates a dull sound. We dedicate time to training your feet to land with clarity, ensuring each bol—or rhythmic syllable—rings true. This is the foundation of the Jaipur Gharana style I teach. ### What We Cover * **Tatkaar Fundamentals:** Proper weight distribution and posture for sharp, clear sound. * **Jaipur Gharana Chakkars:** Techniques for spotting and core engagement to achieve graceful, stable spins. * **The Art of Padhant:** You cannot dance what you cannot recite. We practice Padhant so you understand the rhythmic cycle (Taal) deeply before attempting complex movements. * **Mathematical Precision:** We move beyond basic steps into complex rhythmic play, training your ears to catch beats before they run away. My classes are kept to small batches of 10 to 15 students, which allows me to provide real-time verbal corrections.
